Last year i got a thermostat put onto a radiator, seen the guy doing it and it looks easy enough.

However i remember him going into the attic to turn the water off (or stop it flowing) something to do with the water tanks.

Im looking to install another thermostat in another room, and im looking to know what i have to stop or turn off up in the roof space .

any help would be great.

Up in the attic i have 2 water tanks, a big one and wee one

Also is there any other tips /hints i should know about before attempting this! (he made it look easy)
thanks in advance

The wee one is your F&E tank. This is used to fill and top up your heating. You can either tie the ball valve up or turn off the supply by means of a stopcock. There maybe one in the loft otherwise the main one as it enters your home. Once this is done you can drain the system. Attach a hose to a drain point, then open the draincock. This will begin to remove the water from the system you will need to open the bleed nipples on all the rads to empty the system completly. You can now change the valve.

Remember water can cause a lot of damage to your property, so if you are not overly confident get a plumber to do it. It is a simple task for a proffessional and shouldnt cost you much

Fingers crossed

An experienced plumber could 'seal' the system, thus preventing the loss of your system inhibitor.

Drain easy DIY kits are available but unless you create an air tight seal you will be in trouble. Easy job for a reputable plumber.

great thanks!

Do you actually have to drain all the water out of all radiators?

I would have thought you just empty the water from one only (note this radiator is up stairs if that helps)
