Ive recently moved into a house of around 25 years old and it appears to have the original thermostat and timer units.

The timer does not work properly in that it does not switch on when I set it to come on and off at designated times for hot water or central heating

I am able to get the central heating to work by setting the timer to continuous and turning the dial on the thermostat when I want the heating to come on.
For hot water i also have to switch the timer to continuous and it seems to work for now.

Id like to replace both the timer unit and the thermostat with a new set that is programmable

Is this a relatively easy thing to do and what options do I have for replacements?

Ive had a look on the honewell site but im not sure where to start in terms of what specific types i need to be looking at and what i will need

Can anyone offer some advice?
Thanks in advance

Note: I guess you may ask the details of my CH/HW system in order to help. All i know is that its not a combi boiler system.
Im not really sure what type of system it is though so ill have to get some pics of that and post them if required.

AFAIK the actual thermostats and timers are fairly swappable. You can also get ones which you can control via your phone, google Hive or Nest for example.

Whath do you want to do Alan?
Get what you have, to work or upgrade?
I think you need a professional to assess yor system and needs/wants and point you in the right direction.
Sometimes this cannot be done on a forum page.

I want to upgrade the timer and thermostat.

I noticed that when youmove any of the . switches. For example switching the ch.from.ofcf to cont. The red light flashes and clicking can be heard from the unit. It requires the switch to be jiggled a bit for the light to stay on continuously.
This is the same for all switches.on the unit.
Sounds like possible loose connections of something. Probably fixable but id.like to replace the units with something new anyway.
