So I’ve used a website to work out what heat output we need from radiators in a room we are renovating. We need 3120 watts in total. If I get 2 big double panel radiators (1.2m long)the combined heat out put is 4664 watts. The next size radiator down (1m long) would give a heat output of 3886.

Which size is best. Can you have too much heat output?

I prefer to go bigger, it will warm the room quicker, if you fit thermostatic rad valves, you won't be wasting energy when the room gets up to temp.

If it's the room with the room stat in it, I'd go for the smaller of the two sizes, or the room stat will be satisfied too quickly and other rooms might get cold.

If it's in any other room I'd fit the larger size with a TRV, as stated above.

Thanks everyone it’s not a room with a stat in. It’s a living room/dining room that we are knocking through. I was just concerned with the larger ones that the boiler would struggle?
