Got some quotes for a service, one person has said if I haven't had the burner seal replaced for past 5 years, it should be done (& service price goes up by £55).
Boiler installed in 2015 - never had the 'seal' replaced? Is it a necessary requirement just as a matter of course?

To service the boiler properly the combustion chamber needs to be opened and when that is done the seal has to be changed.

They last around 4/5 years. It should have a strip down service at least that often if not more, and the seal replaced each time. Sometimes new electrodes along with it. Every year, as part if it's service, your engineer should test around the top of the heat exchanger with an analyser to make sure no CO2 or CO is leaking past the seal.

If looking for quotes for servicing, it needs to be understood that British Gas ( and maybe some others ) only do a "Safety Check" which just involves measuring the flue gas parameters to ensure it is burning correctly and efficiently.

A proper service as set out by the manufacturers is much more involved and will take longer.

get worcester to service it and you will get a warraty with the service
