Tank connector how to fit

Ive got a brass 22mm compression tank connector it came with 1 rubber washer

A quick google shows differing opinion where the washer goes - I can only see it working on the inside

do people use sealant on the thread? (I’d say not as per compression)

do I need a plastic washer outside - it didn’t come with one

It goes in the bin. Nylon washers both sides of the hole in the tank. No thread sealant needed

Many thanks for the advice.

Annoyingly I’m struggling to find suitable nylon washers, the toolstation / screwfix outlets seem to only sell 1” plastic washers (not sure they are nylon). Maybe I need to go to a plumbers merchant for them.

I've always just used the supplied rubber washer on the inside. I have seen leaks where a nylon washer on the outside has split.

Assuming (given that it's 22 mm) the connection is for the water coming out of the bottom of the cistern, I'd:

1. Fit the rubber washer between the flange on the tank connector and the inside of the cistern.
2. If supplied, use a nylon washer between the nut and the outside of the cistern. If not supplied, don't bother.
3. No need for any sealant on the threads.

Putting a rubber washer between the flange and inside of the cistern seals the flange and thus automatically seals against seepage along the threads.

Just to update this in case anybody else searches, I followed this advice:

the washers were a perfect fit (about 45mm externally, same size as flange on fitting) and no leaks at all
