Why not? The US won't just give it back without a cost and if you've got sitting ducks and your goal is to make the war as expensive for the US as possible you go for it.

In all likelihood if the US occupies the island the cheapest way to get it back would be to level it first then rebuild.
 
To destroy all the military on an island in the middle of a war only means one thing..........
 
Trumpf's putting off the difficult decision he's got to make. It's not Garza, you cant blow a country that size to smithereens without using nuclear.
