Hi all, I need some advice regarding an HM Land Registry ID1 form. I’ve been asked to complete one as part of a property transaction, but I’m not represented by a solicitor in the process, so I need to get my identity verified separately.

Can anyone advise the easiest/cheapest way to get an ID1 form verified in the UK, and whether solicitors, conveyancers, or notaries are usually the best option? Also interested in typical costs and turnaround times. Any recent experiences would be really helpful.

There are companies who will charge about £80 to do what you can do yourself with the government verification service.

Did you read the notes?

I recently bought some land, all I did was find a solicitor who would confirm my identity, passport and proof of address. Took 5 minutes, then I sent it to the land seller's solicitor. No idea what form the filled in though. The thing that was most frustrating was proving where the money came from.

I had to do the KYC check for some investments recently. I worry where my documents get stored. I actually now keep an account with a few quid in just for proof of ID. Though of course it’s no good for KYC/AML proof of source.
