Lack of drainage in border

Hi

Just cleared loads of stones from this border. Although it surrounds a patio, it was previously part of a lawn. Wanted to put some flowers in, so dug down to about 20-25cms depth. However, I then hit a load of concrete, and this area did not drain after recent heavy rain.

Am I wasting my time adding soil/compost/manure in this scenario?

Don't worry about it.
Normal.
Mt gravel drive had a huge puddle yesterday with the rain.
I'm lying new patio and where I dug out on the clay, it was like a pond last year.
Chucked gravel over then I'll layed slabs.
That's a low point and water runs to it.
You probably have solid ground so water collects.
Fill with soil and don't worry about it.

If you are still concerned and have an SDS drill then drill a few holes through the concrete at regular intervals. But as Wayners says it shouldn't be a problem as it will soak away horizontally as well as vertically. It would probably help to put some path edging along the patio to stop rain splashing from the soil and discolouring the flags.
