Thanks tell80 Ive got four holes open now, about 1/3 of the job done. I'll close holes before I continue onto new holes. I'll never get it perfect, but I'll get most of the sand and mortar off the slate DPC which straddles the inner and outer leaf

Yes there must be a drain running along the side of the house as the kitchen sink drains into a gulley at the side wall. However the drain is below a disabled concrete ramp and would need to break up concrete to access drain

Thanks I'll take a wide photo. I think it could be the wide gap between the wall and the concrete pathway that is allowing rainwater into the foundations and wetting the wall and causing the algae to grow. Not seen the roof leaking. Not sure how to detect a leaking drain

Update It turns out the DPC was slate buried in the mortar. Also I think the slate DPC spans the cavity

I spoke too soon, copper lead connection was just above it. I think the tin dripped onto the lead when they made the connection.

Looks like copper underneath but looks like lead on top

I looked at the roof more closely today I can confirm that there are no holes in the lead I don't think the roof is the source of the dampness. Althougth it does not have soakers it will probably stop water ingress. Any rainwater that strikes the wall or side of the roof in the corner will be...
