Hot water supply to shower and kitchen luke warm. Temporarily no cold supply.

Try putting the shower to fully cold and on full. See does that improve the other two.

Hot water supply to shower and kitchen luke warm. Temporarily no cold supply.

Yes, but does it feel like 60C just leaving the boiler, does the boiler display the DHW temperature, I'm thinking that there might be some X over from a cold supply somewhere because if its leaving the boiler at 60C or so and its only lukewarm in the kitchen/shower then there must be some cold...

Hot water supply to shower and kitchen luke warm. Temporarily no cold supply.

Does the HW pipe at the Boiler only feel as warm as the temperature in the kitchen and at the shower,, what is the temperature set to?

    Immersion cut-out with a twist

A photo of the Immersion top with its cover removed would be invaluable.

    Immersion cut-out with a twist

The stat should be the same or almost the same length as the element, its then measuring the average temperature of the water in the cylinder. When starting with a fully cold cylinder then the stat will shut off the power when all the vol of water that the element is immersed in is heated to...

    Immersion cut-out with a twist

Is the immersion mounted in the top of of the cylinder and if so is it twin element with Sink/Bath c/o switch or is it a side mounted immersion element?.

Worcester 24i boiler - limited hot water upstairs

OK, thanks, can you still carry out one shower vs the other test as suggested above, ie, ensure both flow rates the same and measure/compare the temperatures of both.

Worcester 24i boiler - limited hot water upstairs

Strange that the engineer changed the PHEX in view that d/stairs OK but u/stairs not, presume he took a flowtest at least first.

Worcester 24i boiler - limited hot water upstairs

There are a few basic things you can do. Put the upstairs shower to fully hot & fully open, hold a container under it for exactly 30 secs, measure this with a 1 litre container, X 2 to give the flowrate in LPM, if you have a household thermometer measure the shower temperature, the (my) present...

Single storage heater, would it be worthwhile?

I know someone who installed them a few years ago and were very pleased with them but installed them instead of oil fired heating, not to supplement it. Dimplex Quantum speak in italics. "The storage heater comes in four sizes: QM070,QM100,QM125&QM1.50.which are respectively...

WB Boiler 1.A lower setting query/ post adding insulation

You may now get a lot of boiler cycling as its minimum output is ~ 8.5kW.

    Bypass valve

My AWACS system must be down but didn't see your post until a hour ago, however..... Obviously the ABV will distort things somewhat but it might seem that the HEX may not be that blocked up but of course could still have some very hard insulating type of scale build up, what is really amazing...

    Bypass valve

When/if doing the above tests, can you please take one set of readings with pump speed set to 100% and another test with a pump map settings of 6, 400mb.
  14. J

    Bypass valve

Yes, Renew the ABV before doing anything else. That appears to be a 7M (700mb) pump, Pump head is proportional to speed squared so pump head at 50% modulation = 700*0.5^2, 175mb and pump head at 63% modulation = 700*0.63^2, 278mb (2.78M), nowhere near index 6 on the ABV. You might also, for...

Oil boiler, time between on/off/on and use of multi thermostats etc.

A oil fired boiler will allways take longer to heat up than a gas boiler with the same output because the boiler HEX contains ~ 20L of water vs a gas boiler's 2 or 3L.
  16. J

    Bypass valve

Looks very like a knackered ABV, easy enough to confirm. Put the pump map to 1....150mb After a few minutes read off the pump modulation in 1-C2 % Then go to pump map 3...250mb Again read off the pump modulation Ensure ABV at index 6

    Bypass valve

There's still a problem, maybe new, since the new HEX was installed, with the (a) dT between the target and flow temps even under steady firing conditions, but maybe sorted since engineer was scheduled to come back on the 16th.

Oil boiler, time between on/off/on and use of multi thermostats etc.

I too have a oil fired boiler, a 21 year old, 20kW, non condensing Firebird, 10 rads, 8 with TRVs ("mechanical") and one roomstat that controls the temperature in a combined dining/living room, the TRVd (set to 18C) rads are in rooms that we rarely "live" in except for the bedroom which is set...

Combi install do I need an external ABV?

Very unlikely so IMO that excessive pump head is causing the noisy operation, 1670rpm of a probable max of 2900rpm will only result in a ~ 2.5/3M pump head, if the minimum speed is 70% then the pump head will still only be a max of 3.4M which shouldn't cause problems, the flow/return dT might...

Combi install do I need an external ABV?

Have you done the obvious and vented all the rads with boiler off?. there is also a automatic venting function, see below. I think the boiler has a 7M pump which is automatically controlled but you can set the minimum speed to 70% (it may have been set to 100%) which may help to reduce the...
