    Conduit with first fix wiring

No, however I have got some transferable skills from automotive wiring that I'm sure will come in handy. I know I've not supplied any images, so your mind will be wondering. But we're not talking endless metres of conduit snaking below my joists. It would literally be: - wiring running under...

    Conduit with first fix wiring

I'm a logical & methodical person by nature. I dislike paying people to do something I could potentially do myself. Especially when the end result doesn't end how I wanted it. Let's just say I've been let down by varying tradespeople in the past. I'd much rather research and self learn a...

    Conduit with first fix wiring

Hi all, Whilst renovating our bungalow we will be fitting additional & relocating current sockets and switches. The lighting wiring runs throughout the loft space and the socket wiring runs below the suspended timber floor. Can I run conduit to the back boxes with the intention to upgrade and...

Replacing subfloor - Which material to use?

Thanks! Where does "chicken" come into it?! Lol  I've sorted the insulation, 111mm to achieve a U value of 0.25. Worked out by an online calculator. We're going to go for 150mm Sheeps Wool.

Replacing subfloor - Which material to use?

We really don't want to put the chipboard back down. We're wanting to upgrade to a more premium product and don't mind any additional work/cost. We're after a better end result.

Replacing subfloor - Which material to use?

Hello all, My girlfriend and I are carrying out a substantial renovation to the "west wing" of our bungalow. This will involve insulating below the floor and replacing the chipboard subfloor. We are weighing up the costs of what materials and insulation to use for the subfloor. What are our...

Painting my uPVC windows and fascias

We've just had composite doors fitted in RAL 7016 and I was considering painting our uPVC Windows to match. I'll be watching this with interest as the results so far look really good. Are you brush painting or using a compressor?

Renew Central Heatin System Pipes - Manifold & PEX

Hi, thanks for the prompt response. Although the house is not particularly old, it must have been build by a blind man with no spirit level, plumb line or common sense. I can only imagine building control in the 80's was VERY laid back. How on earth it passed is anyone's guess?! Although the...

Levelling Floors and Fixing Water Damage

I'd just like to bump this... We have decided to replace all the chipboard floorboard with softwood floorboards. Whilst the boards are up, we're going to take advantage and insulate the floor. Can anyone advise if we would need a vapour control layer? Proposed construction: Floorboards VCL...

Renew Central Heatin System Pipes - Manifold & PEX

Hi all, I'm considering the idea of replacing all the current copper pipes on our central heating system after the boiler. I'd like to incorporate a manifold and paired runs of pex (or some other plastic pipe) to each radiator. Making the system simpler and reducing the amount of joins. We...

Large Fixed Window - Help please

Hello all, My Girlfriend and I are considering a floor-to-ceiling fixed feature window at the end of our bedroom. We like the idea of non-opening, single pane, aluclad & double glazed, in RAL7016 to match our external doors. The sizing would be 3300mm x 2330mm. We have another window in the...

Levelling Floors and Fixing Water Damage

That is one consideration (y) I'm edging more towards reclaimed softwood flooring and fitting it to the whole west side of the house.

Levelling Floors and Fixing Water Damage

The story continues... I've spent the day removing the damaged floor boards to gain access to the joists. Here are the pictures: Study: Ensuite: Floorboards from underneath, prior to removal: Un-level joists?: I plan to cut out the remaining damaged floorboards...

Levelling Floors and Fixing Water Damage

Joist ends? The upper part of the joists, where the floorboard is fastened to? Or the part that's fixed into the wall? The reason I ask is because all the internal walls are studded walls and the joists run across the full width/length of the property.

Levelling Floors and Fixing Water Damage

Right then... I've managed to remove the shower cubicle and tray, isolate the water and lift a "patched" section of floorboard. To be it looks like a historical leak that hasn't been fixed properly in the past. I'll let the pictures do the talking: Back to the bedroom: Into...

Levelling Floors and Fixing Water Damage

Hello all, This is my first post, so please be gentle. I've gone through a number of searches and found various answers to my issue, I'd just like to narrow them down slightly. Having recently moved into our first property together, my girlfriend and I have started decorating each room to our...
