Central Heating Nightmare - Air in System Daily

Most info is in my latest post. There is a diagram back there that may be useful. One stelrad vertical rad next to the boiler. I’ve isolated this (turned off both valves) and the system behaviour does not change. No designer. They are all boggo white panel radiators. Most are stelrad...

Central Heating Nightmare - Air in System Daily

The stretch under the hallway floor upstairs is plastic push fit. It’s modern, installed by an established heating company. I don’t know if it is barrier, I only learned that this was a thing since last year! It is grey in colour if that helps at all. I haven’t inspected water colour this year...

Central Heating Nightmare - Air in System Daily

I don’t think that there’s any issue with pipework directions. The boiler has moved location entirely, originally ot was in a cupboard upstairs but now it’s downstairs in the hallway. I’ve had two or three companies look at this and no one has noticed any pipework direction issue.. pipework has...

Central Heating Nightmare - Air in System Daily

Thanks. Trades all seem surprised by this suggestion and often discourage it but I’m going to find someone that will just do what I ask. Do you have any advice on brand at all..?

Central Heating Nightmare - Air in System Daily

Hello everyone. Time for my yearly fight with my heating system! It's exciting! It's unpredictable! It's a rollercoaster of emotions! I'll reiterate so that no one has to read through all these old messages. ISSUE Sealed combi boiler central heating system with 8 rads will run lukewarm if not...

Is this normal - drip marks on breather membrane in new roof

As an update these disappeared in summer so they must have been dampness. Suspect condensation

Drain - can I drill the grey area?

I don’t really have space for a soakaway far enough from a boundary. I’d be making the hole through the side, on one of the vertical faces.. I don’t see it as being much different to directing other water flow this way, ie if I put sink waste into it from above? Not that I’m doing that but...

Drain - can I drill the grey area?

Ok thanks. Trying to confirm if it’s silly idea to drill the grey concrete area but I can’t see that it would cause a problem unless I was really aggressive or unlucky!

Drain - can I drill the grey area?

Hi Thinking of adding drainage to garden. Don’t need or want a 4 inch soil pipe for this, it will only be run off from a small patio. Looking at aco hex drains which appear to have small pipe outlets - I need to confirm this but they appear like internal water waste piping like from kitchen...

    Extension - extra foundation/footing?

Hi all Looking to lay a patio next to a 3x3m approx brick single skin extension, mid 70s vintage. I'm being careful as I'm suspicious of the foundation quality and depth, and current working theory is that it is a raft foundation. I pull up old patio on one side next to it and find this...

Priming slurry for Indian sandstone - cement and SBR or ready mix slurry

Hi all I’m laying some patio and a right of access path soon. I want the patio to be solid but the right of access path, jsut good enough. I bought ready made priming slurry(pavetuff) but I do have SBR and cement. I was going to use the ready made slurry everywhere but ofc it will cost a lot...

Extension footing - how to make this look pleasant

So I’m looking to continue with this. All the crappy mortar is chipped off now leaving me with the bare footing My plan is to - sbr slurry to the bare brick - mortar mix, ratio TBD, to this area - smooth it out and make good. Intend to keep it breathable as it’s so low and it will get wet...

    Summerhouse drainage question

Thanks. I’ll have a mess around!

    Summerhouse drainage question

Cheers. I’ll get a tap or spout or something and fart about with washers. Could cut a hole, and then mount some firm plastic inside that hole with gasket sealant or similar so I have a flat mounting surface.

    Summerhouse drainage question

How did you connect your ‘overflow’ for your ‘leaky pipe’? Water butt I have is round (annoyingly). So it needs like a tap or outlet secured by washers either side..

    Summerhouse drainage question

Yeah that’s logically what I try and tell myself, but it’s it’s directed into one spot only and washes it away.. Overthinking it, I think directing the flow into the water butt, having an overflow into a pipe with holes over the ground for it to disperse slowly when full, sounds like a...

    Summerhouse drainage question

Thanks for the insights. I’ll have a think. I can always lay extra ‘just in case’ while the ground is up and then I have options..!

    Summerhouse drainage question

Good points on the maintenance. I’m mega scared of damage to house foundations and walls etc which is why I’m so ‘proactive’ on drainage..! But at 4m away from house and 2-3 from extension, a small trickle probably isn’t really going to make much difference.. I was thinking that I would...

    Summerhouse drainage question

Summerhouse not tall enough to make any sort of link to the existing guttering Thanks. I was thinking about something like that too.. adding an overflow pipe with holes along it to disperse the water out as it fills. Only issue is I have fence directly behind it (right of access), so I could...
