Stopcock to Lever Valve - Updated/Current Regs?

I'm glad i paid the extra few pounds for mine. That said they have a locking device which automatically engages if the handle is in the upright position, which i wanted so it is pull down for off as that seems most intuitive. 2 seconds to cut that off with an angle grinder

Stopcock to Lever Valve - Updated/Current Regs?

Are check valves available full bore? If not I might not bother having one. The central heating being pressurized I can see the need and full flow to top that up isn't ever needed. But every other appliance is just water flowing in with no backwards pressure likely and even if say the washing...

Stopcock to Lever Valve - Updated/Current Regs?

I'm certainly glad its changed. The existing stopcocks needed grips on to get them to move and seeped around the handle. A couple of gate valves in the house needed grips to get them to shut off fully. Useless for wife and kids in a panic situation. Good quality ball valves with a nice big...

Stopcock to Lever Valve - Updated/Current Regs?

So it seems that the one in the street is what is referred to as it shuts off entirely and only my premises. Of course I'll have one where the pipe enters the house but the regulation really seems to be covered by the one in the street. Could argue its not convenient if need a tool to reach in...

Would these tools be beneficial to me?

Here you go, this is the sort of thing https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/335763910824 the bigger wheel is geared down so your get a full speed 6 inch and a 8 inch wider slower wheel. That company was sold off and the non-british made stuff was nothing compared to the original but for this price it...

Would these tools be beneficial to me?

I've had one of these old grinders for years and it has unstoppable torque https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/186908994986 I think I paid £12 for it as the photos made it look cheap but its all metal. I tried a cheap modern one and it just stopped turning when you put anything to it. The old british...

Stopcock to Lever Valve - Updated/Current Regs?

Can you explain that a bit more? I'm just about to stick one of these easy off lever jobs where the stiff old stopcock is but there isn't another valve or drain, where is the regs explained for that...

Stopcock to Lever Valve - Updated/Current Regs?

That sounds like the one in the pavement. Which then suggests the one in the house could be as you like?

Central Heating Nightmare - Air in System Daily

how can there be air in the system that doesn't rise to the top of the radiators but only comes out when the boiler is running?

Central Heating Nightmare - Air in System Daily

Yes nightmare. Feels like one of those things where in the end it will turn out to be something stupidly simple that has been overlooked. Is the water coming out of your cold tap full of bubbles?

Central Heating Nightmare - Air in System Daily

I guess an air separators is designed just for this where an automatic air vent isn't doing it and there is an issue with the system design. Still feels like a bodge rather than proper correction but if thats easier than getting the boards up and changing the pipes it might be the right solution...

Central Heating Nightmare - Air in System Daily

that wouldn't trap air. Might be an old redundant loop somewhere. If you can hear the water trickling that is the sound of water falling through an air pocket so you should be able to find it roughly by that

Central Heating Nightmare - Air in System Daily

If it doesnt rise or fall, and no air comes out of the rads, you must just have an air pocket in the pipes. But why would it get worse after it has been ok...

Central Heating Nightmare - Air in System Daily

adding an air vent isn't really the full solution of course, its treating the symptom not the disease. Because you say you can successfully clear the air after a drain it must be finding its way in even after closed

Central Heating Nightmare - Air in System Daily

so where is the water going? Only other way I can think where you might not notice it is through the domestic hot water heat exchanger has that been looked at? But that doesn't explain how air gets in

Central Heating Nightmare - Air in System Daily

waterfall and trickling noises are water falling through air. If the air doesnt come out then you have an air lock / pocket at least partially. Find where the noises are exactly and consider adding an air vent in highest part of that area.

Central Heating Nightmare - Air in System Daily

Its all sounding too weird though. feels like you need to go back to basics. After the system has been off for the day leave all the rads on and the boiler OFF and go around the house and see if you can bleed air from the rads.

Central Heating Nightmare - Air in System Daily

was just thinking that, it must be losing water but then drawing air in when running. Faulty pressure relief valve? Is water dripping out of the pipe at the back of your house?

Central Heating Nightmare - Air in System Daily

makes sense that more air is upstairs, and BR is noticeably more than the others? or is B3 similar? Why do you turn off the rads to bleed? You need the water to be able to move around to fill the space left by the released air. Start downstairs and work your way around the house leaving the...

Central Heating Nightmare - Air in System Daily

So its probably not significant that you'll find the colder ones at the furthest point first rather than its a clue that there is a air leak at that furthest point
