    Paint peeling on chimney breast

Cheers Wayners, started using duck tape & worked a treat. Unfortunately it's given me another problem. Didn't realise it at first but walls have been lined horizontally as some of the paper started coming off. Can i work around with what i have removed so far or would it all have to come off...

    Paint peeling on chimney breast

Best way to sort out issue. I was lightly sanding down existing paint work to redecorate, all good until the paint on the front on the chimney breast started peeling away from the layer underneath. The chimney breast is in use & i assume it has a liner for the gas fire. I've used a scraper...

    Painting outside, couple of questions

Cheers Wayners, unfortunately it's going to get painted because previous owner started it but didn't finish the job & i bought the paint off him. Preparation, is it just a matter of sanding it all before cover staining it? Best way to get a straight line on walls? Many thanks

    Painting outside, couple of questions

Afternoon guys, had a decorator booked in but unfortunately due to the continuous inclement weather he reckon he will not be able to do it this year. Thinking about having a go myself. I am responsible for the boundary wall between ours & neighbours. Where should the boundary paint line be &...

Outside socket, which is the best?

Cheers for the reply Ebee. I live in Cumbria as mentioned already. I'm assuming my electrics are up to scratch as it was rewired before by the previous owner, approx 5 years ago. It's definitely on a final ring circuit in the lounge. Good idea about a double pole switch to break the supply...

Outside socket, which is the best?

As above, looked online & there is a multitude of different makes & prices. It has to be waterproof, as live in Cumbria & it rains a lot. Would be used for mainly mower & strimmer use. I Haven't really looked for anything yet, just looking ahead. As far as i am aware i don't need a sparky &...

    Preparation for painting pebble dash?

What's the best preparation for painting these walls. I assume these are pebble dash walls?? I'm not going to paint them myself, the gable end is far too high but would spraying be better than brush & roller? I'm supplying the paint myself, but what questions should i be asking when i get...

How do I make a cupboard?

I want to make a frame with a pair of doors to fit around the consumer box. I going to box in the pipes at the bottom(ok doing that) & run skirting along the front of it. Struggling to work out how to do the other bit. The alcove is not square 840mm at bottom & 855mm at where i roughly want...

    Identify this slate tile

Found this in my garden after strong winds. Is it a roof slate? As far as i can see it doesn't match up with anything on my roof or neighbours. Thought if it had come off a roof it would have shattered?

Fixing wooden batten to MDF panel

As per title, the wife wants me to put shelves in an alcove in cupboard. I need to fix a batten to an MDF panel, what is the best way to do it. I was going to use 38mm wood for the battens (have some leftover from previous job) & the MDF is 18mm. The other two sides are brick. The shelves are...

    Insulated plasterboard or something similar.....

I think it's roughly that. Would having less than that, make that much difference in temperature in the downstairs hallway?
