Thanks for reply. It's not really his fault as it was meant to be a straight swap of a leaking cylinder for a new one. The boiler is a multifuel stove and it is vented. It was too late and too warm last weekend to fire it up. It filled and there were no leaks and we checked the immersion heater...

Cylinder is replaced, same size as old one, indirect and vented. F&E tank installed, new immersion heater as well and all radiators are bled and heating. Can't get hot water though unless the immersion is on. Spent all weekend hunting an airlock and checking for a blockage but no joy. We find...

There is an automatic vent as part of the design of the Spartan vessel. It's the little grey bit at the front about the size of a Heinz baby food can. I assume because both the heating and domestic water goes through this Spartan thing that the one vent does both. The thing is it's worked fine...

It is def the hot water from the cylinder via the top of the Spartan vessel that goes to the bathroom and kitchen DHW. Plumber is coming to replace indirect cylinder later this week and will see if a F & E tank is able to go in.

Yes it does. Comes back down into a walk in cupboard to the right and goes to bathroom and kitchen sink.

Turns out the Hydro Spartan is leaking too. Take it there is nothing similar to the Spartan on the market, Is it feasible to put the F&E tank above the hot water cylinder. Height to ceiling is 1.3m. 1.75m from radiator to ceiling. Can't get a picture of the boiler connection as it is behind...

The hot water feed to the bathroom taps is the right hand side pipe. Can get a digital camera tomorrow if the pics are not clear.

I am. Sorry. The pipe at the back is the hot water pipe which goes to the bathroom and then back into the kitchen sink.

There is one more connection coming out the bottom of the Spartan cylinder. Can't get in to take a clear picture. The air vent is the smaller grey colour cylinder on the bottom left. We burn smokeless fuel and logs. Think it was installed mid 90's and by a plumber and a builder. It's a Hamlet inset stove with a back boiler which replaced an open fire.

There is no F&E tank. After consulting neighbours the council put central heating in these house in c1990 and they appear to have used these Spartan vessels rather than putting the F&E tank in the upstairs house attic. Don't know what my rights are regarding access to install a tank in someone...

Would it be feasible to replace this with 2 expansion vessels on each side of the system?

A multi fuel stove. There are 7 radiators and hot water to bathroom and kitchen. No bath as there is an electric shower.

Thank you for reply (and help with pictures). We have no access to loft space because we're a ground floor flat, ex council house. Realise now there is no feeder tank. What are my options ie is there an equivalent to this Spartan cylinder or should I be looking at a combination indirect cylinder.
