    Online Structural Engineer

Thanks Notch, I've just looked at the website you suggested, unfortunately, the "contact us" tab doesn't work and there is no email address anywhere else on his site.

    Online Structural Engineer

There are only a few here in Torquay, but to be honest I didn't think to contact anyone more further afield as if they have to travel, it would increase the costs - hence why I was looking at online that may not need to travel?! Kind of contacdiccting myself there, but only going by the...

    Online Structural Engineer

I'm planning a knock through between my kitchen and dining room and need beam/RSJ calculation (and drawings?!) For building control, but the local structural engineer is "unable to assist in the small project" as they are "too busy". Has anyone used an online Structural Engineer? One I was...

Removing tree within 2.5 metres to house

As above, check for TPO's and have it down. With regards to the roots, you have a choice - either dig them out or leave them - it won't grow back like a laurel would. I've had a fair few of these down over recent years and the roots were easily dug out with a pick axe.

Anyone have any first hand experience of video baby monitors?

For years I have used a cheap wi-fi camera from Amazon. The night vision is excellent in HD and has audio as a back up. I either use my phone or the ipad to view and hear through the app. I don't bother so much with the motion detection as it goes off all the bloody time when my child is...

    Blocked soakaway

Have you got any photo's of the area Paul? Might help with getting some ideas back. I have experienced a blocked soakaway at my property and can confirm that it is quite worrying when water is building up quickly around your house! Mine was like a moat! I currently have a work around in place...

    Working Platforms

I have a "First 5" tower, which despite it's name it is not 5 metres tall! It gives you reachable access to 5m, of course depending on how tall you are, with a platform height of just under 3m. It does have a slight wobble, but that is to be expected with such a light platform. As a DIY'er I am...

How do get someone to reroof my porch?

Prodeck are always advertising on the local radio (I'm in Torbay so only 20 mins from Exeter). Their website suggests that they cover the Exeter area too. https://www.prodek.co.uk/ For the record, I am in no way linked to this company whatsoever, nor have I ever employed their services so do...

    Velux Project Issues.....

Many thanks for identifying the tile - I have googled the ones you mentioned and it is defiently a Richmond. Unfortunately, they have been discontinued by Redland & now replaced with the Richomnd 10 (completely different!). Any idea on what my options are now?

    Velux Project Issues.....

Evening all! This weekend the weather was good so I thought I would get my new Velux installed. It was replacing an old cracked unit, but it is also PVCU and quite some amount bigger. After viewing (many, many times!) a DIY Velux project in the project section by "LoftyAmbitions" I thought I...

Bathroom floor tiles, underfloor heating need help

I'm sure other folk may have another opinion, but I personally wouldn't mess about any further with that. I'd remove the ply and replace it before carrying on. That way, everything will remain as level as possible. I am a perfectionist though, one of my many traits!

Modern New Build to 90's Time Warp - Renovation / Modernisation Thread

This is just the tip of the iceburg Ian! I have bathroom, ensuites, kitchen, lounge, dining room, infact the whole house needs bringing up to date. The problem is, it's like opening a can of worms - each job i've started so far has unearthed a previous bodge or items that have been seriously...

Modern New Build to 90's Time Warp - Renovation / Modernisation Thread

I've been a long time lurker and have enjoyed reading many threads on this forum, so it's about time I posted my own now that my project home has commenced! The thread title is a bit of a giveaway as to what content you should expect to see on here in the forthcoming years. Having bought a...
