    Radiator Valve Replacement

Some fittings also differ in depth so the olive might not seal correctly. An easy way to remove an olive is to carefully cut partly through the olive with a junior hacksaw at a 45 degree angle without cutting the thinner edges ( the olive is thicker in the center than its outer edges) Then...

How do I fit my new fibreglass bath?

The bath should come with a fittings pack which includes Instructions, Four plastic cylindrical fittings that screw to the frame to accept the "U tubes" Adjustable feet, wall brackets and quite importantly ( to stop you slashing your bum when you take a bath)the correct size screws to fit the...

!!! NEED HELP!!! Funny shaped waste for toilet

The red cement circle is probably the clay collar to the sewer pipe. in most cases you would have to break out the old toilet but be extra careful whilst chipping lightly around this collar. under the cement seal you will find that the pipe diameter will be smaller than the collar and will...

You will also need to plan where your condensate pipework will run to. It needs to be connected to a permanent drain or purpose made soakaway.

    Sorting out an airlock

You could try turning off the upstairs rads and set the pump on pump speed 3 for a few minutes. See if that'll shift it.

    Fish Smell in House

Been working on a new build the last couple of weeks and the joiners have been cutting and installing Kingspan insulation in the roof before boarding over. The sun's been beating down and the whole top floor stinks like fish. Maybe it could be this?

    We had a leak.................

An insurance company that doesn't pay out for accidental damage  Do they insure cars? will they only pay out if you intend to drive into another car? I would look a little deeper into that one. Its also bad practice to pour any type of solidifying material down the drain. Following...

    Rip Off Of The Week??

This sort of thing makes me sick. There's a good living to be earned in the trade without ripping people off. It's unlikely for a washing machine tap to leak from anywhere other than the rubber washer or the olive which are both repairable. I could be wrong in this case, But i'd hazard a...

    Re-using 'stuff'

I've done quite a few jobs where the customer specifies new pipework and is quite prepaired to pay for it. I would not cheat by trying to hide a bit where it would not be seen. On the other hand i'm quite happy to re-cycle their old pipework for them down at the local scrap yard.

    Blocked Drains

To remove a cast iron soil stack, Most people would smash it into smaller pieces with a hammer to ease removal. However, Some people dont bother to cut it at the bottom with a grinder or stihl saw and place something in between to stop shrapnell from going down the drain. My guess is its...

I'd agree with namsag. I went through one with a pick axe a while ago whilst digging out some privet (at my own house). I was aware there was services there but expected them to run up the footpath but they didn't, The gas pipe cut across the corner of my front garden at around 10" deep. They...

Just a thought, Where's your stop cock leaking from? If it's the gland nut a slight nip up might save you the trouble of changing it.

changing float valve in cold water tank - and pipe freezing!

Its surprising how much water can be lost whilst trying to get a stop end onto a mains pressue pipe while its running. Also the water in the pipe needs to be still for the freezing kit to work properly. I would advise the same as those above, Get control of the water before you start work...
