Extending ring main with 1.5mm cable

Def. agree with all B-A-S says plus others AND 1.5 is only good for 20A if surface-'clipped direct' other methods can lower it to 10A so although a major problem IT's their problem not yours, probably didn't have 2.5mm on van so thought they would get away with fooling unknowing customer, stick...

Should I have an electrical safety certificate for this?

as a further guide we charge basic £40 plus £22/circuit, the £40 covers time checking main earthing/bonding, cost of paperwork, checks on type of supply Ze/Pscc etc. the £22 is for time to locate & inspect/test a circuit. seems to work out about right,

    Testing a property

or 16th or 15th, or 14th or....... Test to current standard, note non compliances due to regs changes as code 4's. Any work done MUST be to latest standard, otherwise every thing will remain static and never brought up to date. This is one of the fundamental points of doing a PIR surely,

    PIR security light

is the PIR very close to lamp ie all in one unit? what can happen is as the PIR triggers on changing heat source, once turned on by moving body of heat (you) when it turns off the rapid cooling of the lamp is seen as changing heat pattern so retriggers. has lamp some how got closer to PIR? ie...

Can i power lights and sockets of the same breaker

hi, if you are installing a new supply from consumer unit to garage then use a 32A mcb in con.unit; run 4mm2 tw/e to garage to a 'garage unit', which is a mini con.unit with rcd as main switch and a 6A mcb for lights + a 16 or 20 A mcb for sockets wired as a radial in 2.5mm2, much better...

Dual Split Consumer unit and Fire Alarms

when I first read this post it said 'Fire Alarms' which implies a fire panel which needs a dedicated supply pref. not RCD'd etc. reading on it implies 'smoke detectors', altogether different! Smoke detectors should come from local, frequently used, circuit such as a lighting circuit so that...

bang goes the theory on bbc

Hi, as CB is @27MHz it has a wave length of just under 10Mtrs so a sub division of that would match to it, there used to be sold a small light that went on tip of antenna which lit on transmit but I am sure they were neons not Led's. If you hold a small fluorescent tube near antenna Voltage...

    Anyone guarantee their work...?

any electrician doing domestic work must offer warranty through their 'part-p ' scheme provider, its law! lucky us! wish I was a chippie, spread, brickie, tosher, etc. but they will get got in the end, 'Trustmark' needs to earn more for 'Gordon' to waste on 'sick birds' (Ill eagles)

Lighting circuit and Low voltage lights!

downlights for a bathroom should be 'room sealed' type anyway, then a pipe above to keep insulation clear is all needed since no through flow of heat from room just convected heat from lamp with no moisture. better still do away with the hideous things and fit a proper bathroom light

    Dimmer advice please.

B-A-S, I was trying not to say that... Eddy, (good handle that) you only rate the dimmer at full load not at what that might go down to when dimmed! I think you don't understand the electronics of the switch, the full lamp rating of 350w is being controlled at all times, the dimmer cuts off...
