Alternative to concrete slab for small workshop

I’ve been wondering what alternatives there could be to pouring a concrete slab for a small 2.5x3m workshop I’m building on the back of my garage. Part of the work we’re doing is extending the patio so I wondered about using the workshop as a practice area for laying paving. Apart from the...

Trench foundation pour tomorrow - tamping help

Thanks for the help all, we got the concrete in on Friday afternoon, in the dry. Not too much mess but did have a couple issue with trench crossings. All in and level though so I'm happy that this is finally moving forward.

Drainage for steps from patio to garden?

We've to'd and fro'd on ideas of how to transition from our patio up to our garden, which is about about 12 inches from slab to grass. We've come across this idea ( http://www.valleygardenlandscapes.com.au/projects/indoor-outdoor/ ) and really like the look of it, but I wonder what, if any...

Trench foundation pour tomorrow - tamping help

Hi all, I've finally got my trenches dug and concrete is ordered for delivery tomorrow. There will be 2 or 3 of us barrowing it from the truck to the trench. My question is about tamping - is it worth buying a tamping tool, or can I just use the front side of the rack, assuming that I'll be...

    Rate my trench!

What surprises me is that the existing foundation only seen to me about 200-250mm deep. I guess regs have changed since the 60's?

    Rate my trench!

I’ve gone thought all sorts of materials from the grass layer. There doesn’t seem to be much different in the class that I’ve been going through today.

    Rate my trench!

Yeah one side still to do. Its going to be a bit more tricky as I’ll need to work around an existing wall foundation and trim that back. With the amount go brick work I’ve had to dig out though, a solid block should be child’s play! Back to the power tools for that.

    Rate my trench!

I’ve been busy digging the foundation trenches for my 2.5x3m workshops which is being extended off the back of my detached garage. As this is my first time digging a trench I thought it would be worth getting some opinions from the forum. Feedback is appreciated.

Getting ready to mix and pour a foundation

Waiting on quotes from a couple of places locally, but if they're in the same ball park as the quote i got yesterday I'll be going back to my original plan. Will update this thread with the outcome.
