    Turbos on 1 litre engines

I think you are absolutely wrong there. "Peak oil" has been proven to be wrong numerous times. Wiki. Over the last century, many predictions of peak oil timing have been made, often later proven incorrect due to increased extraction rates.[9] M. King Hubbert introduced comprehensive modeling of...

    Turbos on 1 litre engines

Since the turbo is driven by the speed of the exhaust gases, what you say could be theoretically correct, but likely false in practice. Engineers will want to get the power available asap, especially with such a small engine as yours, so it sounds like a poor design. Some engines are now using a...

    Sanding new brake discs

How often does that happen ? I bought an o.e. set of pads and discs for my Vectra and there was nothing included. I just used them as normal - which for me is never massive braking - which seems roughly to meet the parameters you lay out.

Multiple Service alerts/warnings -Vauxhall Insignia 2011

Speaking from theory i.e. forums and YT, this kind of multiple alerts is often related to a low battery at some point. Have you/can you check for stored malfunctions,,wipe them out and see how you go from there ? Would also check resting and charging voltages of battery.

    Corsa recall for oil jet

I don't know about this design, but I worked for a piston manufacturer pre 2000 and it was not unusual - although more for diesels - to have oil-cooling to the base of the piston. This , however was not pumped: it would have been by splash/scoop to theunderside .

    Bloody Tyre Shops

Well I live in the Alps at 5 000' so I both need - and legally have to have - winter-tyres ( or chains/snow-socks ) from Oct 01 to March 31. I choose tyres. My question to you was really sparked by your comment about having tracking done when you change tyres, and what you would do when changing...

    Bloody Tyre Shops

What would you do if you are cycling summer-tyres/winter-tyres ?

    Bloody Tyre Shops

No, it's normally 1.6mm. Some countries - Austria and maybe Hungary - have a sepoarate minimum depth of 4 mm for winter tyres. Tyres have two sets of TWI for the two minima. Austria obviously has too many tyre-distributors on the advisory body to the law-makers as they also forbid you from using...

    Corsa recall for oil jet

" Danger: The oil jet cooling nozzles may be damaged. Failure to cool the crankshaft and/or pistons can cause damage to them and result in the engine stalling. This can lead to a hole forming in the engine casing, causing oil leaks onto the exhaust pipe. This can cause a fire to start in the...

Need a runabout - what to avoid etc

This is something I find puzzling. In the USA Kia/Hyundai have a rotten reputation with many recalls for serious faults that risk wrecking the engine, catching car on fire and more. I have tried to find out where Kias for USA are produced but didn't manage to do so. If they are not produced in...

    No dipstick

Change of supplier would require an engineering approval, which should normally include both technical examination and extended testing ( where appropriate ). A new loom should have been tested for exposure to heat, fluid contamination and ageing ( accelerated methods used ). If that was done...

VW Golf 2021 eTSi gearbox selector problem

Just reporting what I have read in newspaper reports and reviews: VW UK is reputed to be very mean with "good will " payments, but if you have 100% VW servicing and it's been done on time, they really ought to pay something. Have you looked on VW forums to see if this is common ? If so, that...

Does that mean that you think I should go to a tyre-fitting depot ?

Another wheel alignment thread ( but different ! )

I just fitted my winter-wheels last week ( just in time as there have been heavy falls since ) and would like your views on the following. These Avon WX7 tyres were fitted on my Vectra C in Jan 2022 and have covered 10 700 miles since. Tracking was done at the same time and new drop-links were...

Scudo (Expert/Dispatch) Rear Shoe Auto Adjuster Questions?

TRW is a multi-multi $ billion o.e. parts supplier: possibly the biggest in brake parts. Now owned by ZF, the leading German manufacturer of - amongst other things - automatic transmissions.

    Sorn/mot

Don't you recall all those cases years ago with early breathalyser stops ? IIRC the law said "when stopped by a police-officer in ( full ? ) uniform " and then there were endless legal arguments about whether the law was applicable if the officer wasn't wearing his hat/cap which meant ( so the...
