What to look for when using 2nd hand upvc windows on extension and porch?

Morning all, I see alot of used upvc windows in good condition. Would the older windows be upto the current regs? I understand it has to have a certain U value, 20mm gap between the glass and 4mm thickness if I understand correctly. I'm building an extension classed as a summer room (posh...

    Lawn mower recommendation?

Hi all I'm looking to buy my first petrol lawn mower soon. I'm a bit of a honda car fan so wanted to stick with honda ideally but am open to recommendations. My dad used to have a Mountfield and that seemed OK. I have electric mowers but they don't have enough grunt really. Thanks for any advice

Garage extension, where to cut existing soffit boards and fascia?

Thanks Ivor. Yes those multi tools are great tools. Off topic but I think they caused a fire at St Paul's Cathedral or similar a while ago. Yes you are correct it's those white plastic headed nails. The boards look like wood covered in a white plastic fascia

Garage extension, where to cut existing soffit boards and fascia?

Thanks for the reply Ivor It's an apex roof not flat roof. Yes matching soffit board and fascia. How would you suggest I trim it? I got a feeling that old pvc fascia will be brittle after 50yrs of being in the sun

Garage extension, where to cut existing soffit boards and fascia?

I'm one course below the soffit boards now on my garage extension. Just wondering how much is a safe bet to cut out either side of the brickwork? How's best to do this? Waterproofing a bunker?

Thankyou for your reply. Yes it would be quite alot of hassle taking out all the French drain. Not impossible in the future as I'm planning to get my own digger in the next couple of years. We did put antinox sheets outside the outside of the plastic dpm sheets also. Mainly to prevent the 4...

    Waterproofing a bunker?

Just to note the walls are made from concrete blocks laid on there side so around 22cm thick wall. Slab is 6inch thick with added waterproofer in the mix. Where the floor meets the wall I have sloped up some mortar a bit like cap and coving you see in commercial bathrooms/toilets etc. The...

    Waterproofing a bunker?

Thanks for the reply. No purpose other than I like building quirky things. I have also built a summerhouse which goes 1m underground... a hobbit house and shepherd's hut. All in a rather large countryside garden. I tend to do this stuff so I don't end up wasting time on Netflix and negate the...

    Waterproofing a bunker?

Hi all, around 4years ago I decided to build a bunker in our garden. It was fine for the 1st year then water has started to fill up the inside. It has been built with concrete blocks laid sideways. Painted with tanking slurry inside and out but also bitumen paint on outside and wrapped in 4...

I laid one brick the wrong way round... any remedies?

Hi all, I built my garage walls and didn't notice till it rained that one brick right slap bang in the centre is the wrong way round. The bricks are heathers and I'm wondering if I can add some texture and redness to it so it doesn't stand out. I could cut it out and replace it. I will probably...

Continue piers to roof height or stop at lintel? Garage extension build

Hi all, I'm extending a garage forward. Single skin wall with piers at the front. I am upto lintel height now and wondered if I can just do a standard corner for the next 7 courses. I have a feeling I have to build the piers to roof height as the walls project 3m from existing garage. Thanks for...
