Please help with this damp patch on my wall

To be honest I'm not sure. I guess it's worth looking up there again one day and taking it apart. I still have the Storm Dry, so if anything, I can coat the brick and reseal the facia. Probably not the best weather now though.

Please help with this damp patch on my wall

I wonder if retrofitting some trickle vents in those windows would do the same thing?

Please help with this damp patch on my wall

Drilling holes through the wall sounds a bit scary! How many would I need? One at the top and one at the bottom? Do we know why this is happening? Is it to do with cold bridging, where the solid wall is meeting the cavity wall and the temperature difference? Have to admit to being a little...

Underfloor heating and boiler constantly running

If I had my away temp at 14º, I think my boiler would be running most of the time. I can't justify the costs at the moment. I don't know much about the overlay boards, I didn't realise they are or can insulated.

Underfloor heating and boiler constantly running

I thought those cement boards might be in use, but I can't prove anything until I get some access. This might be some time as I don't fancy wrecking the wooden floor. I may have another nose under the stairs when I get the time and see if I can figure out what's going on under the floor. I'm...

Underfloor heating and boiler constantly running

Thanks for the comments so far. So, perhaps I am using it wrong. I'd typically set it to switch on about 04:30 in the morning, so it's warm when we get up and then switch off about 07:30 if we're both off out to work, so I'd set the away temp to be very low. Then set it to come on at about...

Underfloor heating and boiler constantly running

I moved into a house that has downstairs wet UFH and is split into 4 zones. My wife frequently works from home and ideally, it would be cheaper to heat the room she's working from. I've tested this and just set the room stat in the living room to call for heat. I've noticed that when the single...

Please help with this damp patch on my wall

I did wonder as our water bill is a touch more than other people I know, but I did the test back in the summer with the meter and there didn't appear to be an issue. That being said, perhaps it's smaller enough not to register on the meter.

Heatmiser UH1-W control unit randomly calling for heat on one zone.

Thanks for the replies so far. I've not made it home from work yet today, so I haven't had a chance to test. My test last night looked good though. Every time that stat called for heat, the zone lit up and every time I switch it off, it went off on the controller. I think only time and testing...

Please help with this damp patch on my wall

Oh, I see. Yes, I've done a fair amount of research in this area and I do none of the above nowadays (apart from breath), yet I still have high humidity. I could probably do with opening the windows more rather than first thing in the morning for 10 mins. I have fairly decent extraction...

Heatmiser UH1-W control unit randomly calling for heat on one zone.

I've just reset the room stat and re-paired with the control unit. I wonder if it had come up-paired and that was causing it to do weird things.

Heatmiser UH1-W control unit randomly calling for heat on one zone.

Hi all, hoping somebody can help. I have wet UFH with Heatmiser slimline RF thermostats (4 zones) connecting directly to the UH1-W control unit. The UH1-W then connects to the boiler via Centaurplus c27 time switch, which I set to auto, as the on/off timing for the UFH is controlled by the 4...

It's sealed. I checked this last year.

Please help with this damp patch on my wall

Hi John, was that your way of saying it's definitely water leaking in and has nothing to do with humidity or cold walls?

Please help with this damp patch on my wall

It's been a while since my last post in January. Nearly a year on, I'm still seeing the same issue. In the summer, I sealed the external cavity brick wall (gable end) with storm dry and it's made no difference, so presumably, this has nothing to do with water ingress through that wall. As...

Outdoor Kitchen Fireplace - Planning permission

I'm toying with the idea of designing an outdoor kitchen and was after some advice on a fireplace. I have a space of about 3 x 5.5m to play with and it will run alongside my fence. I was thinking about building four brick pillars and sitting a tiled roof on top (pavilion style) with cladded...

    Rain water drainage

In what way? there's nothing in there apart from a few mm of water.

    Rain water drainage

Bit of an update. I managed to lift the other drain, which is about 3m away. There isn't a feed into it, so I can only assume it's an overflow from the other drain. I'll speak to my neighbours tomorrow to see if they know how their drains work. If I can't break into the foul water drain, I'm...

    Rain water drainage

Thanks everyone, very helpful as always. I will find out where the downpipe goes at the other end of the house and run the hose pipe down there. With any luck I'll see some water coming out of the flapped pipe. If not, I'll keep exploring. There is another drain cover under my decking. If...
