    Rain water drainage

I took the drain cover off and flushed the toilet and it's definitely connected to the house waste system. It also looked to be about 4 feet deep. One feeding pipe into the chamber seemed to have a flap on it. This wasn't the one that was fed from my house flushing the toilet. I wonder what that...

    Rain water drainage

Guess my next question should be if I can use it, how easy is it to connect? DIY job or getting in a pro?

Thanks, that's sound advice..... Wish I'd thought of that before posting :D

    Rain water drainage

Hoping somebody can help. Currently, the main drain pipe from my house is diverted off onto my carport roof and then sent to carport guttering, and then down a drainpipe to an old water barrel. This then overflows into my garden, which will eventually flow to my neighbour's garden. Not ideal...

Please help with this damp patch on my wall

Anybody else got any theories as to what's causing my damp problems?

Please help with this damp patch on my wall

Yes, I had it in my old house and never had an issue. Nowadays though, all I hear is horror stories..... If I were to consider it, I'd have to do a load of research. The limited research I've done leads me to believe spray foam could be a more modern and higher performing solution...

Please help with this damp patch on my wall

Just read about 'Stormdry Masonry Water Repellent', which seems to get rave reviews. I wonder if I should just get on with painting the brick with this. Unfortunately, I can't do the white solid wall as it's painted, but I suppose the paint should provide a water seal anyway.

Please help with this damp patch on my wall

Harry, I meant to add external wall insulation on the solid walls, where they attach foam or celotex and then a couple of coats of render. I did wonder whether it was worth getting the cavity walls cavity filled as well, but everybody I speak to, says not to, as it CAN cause damp problems.....

Please help with this damp patch on my wall

Bit of an update. I've been in the attic and checked the loft insulation near the eaves and all appears to be dry. Last night was another cold night and there was a slight damp patch in the morning. We've been keeping the bedroom door open at night to see if that helps. One thing was certain...

Please help with this damp patch on my wall

Yes, I was wondering that. The walls are generally pretty cold to touch, guess that's because they are plastered rather than plasterboard and plaster? Just feels like condensation hitting a cold and damp spot because of the roof leak. I'll start venting the room at night now by leaving doors...

Please help with this damp patch on my wall

I had a roof repair done last week as there were some tears in the roof felt. This was all patched and tiles relaid. I noticed this morning that the bedroom wall was soaking wet again and I don't even think it rained last night, although the temperature did reach -2. I mentioned before that...

Please help with this damp patch on my wall

Photos as discussed. I've marked roughly where the internal wall would sit in red. The chimney is quite a distance away but can just about be seen where the ariel is.

Please help with this damp patch on my wall

I'm no builder as you can tell, but how does it work then with wall construction and solid plaster, is the water just sat on top and seeping through?

Please help with this damp patch on my wall

Cheers, that's true, I hadn't thought about the delay between raining. The previous owners had boarded the lofts floors, walls and ceilings, so it's pretty much impossible to find out anything without taking everything apart but I will have to bite the bullet and start. Gutters are fine...

Please help with this damp patch on my wall

I'd 100% agree, but it happens when there's no rain sometimes as mentioned and appears to be worse when it's cold!

Please help with this damp patch on my wall

Hi all, hoping someone can help here. I've got a damp patch that shows up maybe once a week during cold periods in the corner of my bedroom wall. I can't pin it down to days/nights when there has been heavy rainfall. The attached photo was taken in the morning after a very cold night but as...
