Can I cut away this small piece of plasterboard batten in my ceiling

Just the plasterboard with adhesive. There's nothing on the other side to attach it to as the battons don't run along. It's not load bearing, so I'm not concerned about attaching noggins under the plasterboard

Can I cut away this small piece of plasterboard batten in my ceiling

Yes, I'm building a partition 90 degrees off of it that's going to follow the ceiling, but that corner, specifically, will not be connected to anything - the last 100mm of so will be floating because I can't fit it to anything in the ceiling.

Can I cut away this small piece of plasterboard batten in my ceiling

hi everyone, I'm currently installing a pocket door, and the tolerances of the room are slightly out and as a result, I have to recess it about 50mm into the slope of my loft conversion. Unfortunately, there's a small plasterboard batten preventing me to move it any deeper. Can I cut that...

    Is this newel post structural?

Thanks guys, appreciate the responses. I cut them down after reading your posts and discovered that you could pretty much wiggle them free, so you were completely correct. I'd been worrying about this job for weeks haha Thanks again!

    Is this newel post structural?

Hi everyone, I'm in the process of taking out the bannisters in my loft conversion and replacing with a partition wall. I'm going to run the frame all the way along where the existing bannister was, but in order to do so, I will need to cut down this newel post: Can I be sure that post isn't...

How to frame a non-load-bearing wall along a curved ceiling?

Hi everyone, Now, I know a photo would probably be better here, but I hope my crap drawing will suffice! I have a ceiling in a loft conversion that has a curve on either side. I want to frame a new wall that is going to contain a pocket door, but I'm unsure how to proceed with making the...

Changing mixer taps, are these just screw off and screw on?

Thanks Terry, do you mean take out the pipe from the isolation valve upwards?

Changing mixer taps, are these just screw off and screw on?

HI Terry, Thanks for replying, I have the back nuts, thankfully. I was surprised the old ones didn't have them, but it explains why they wobbled like crazy (only just bought house). Will any fibre washers do? And what would you recommend for cleaning off the tap connector? Thank you mate

Changing mixer taps, are these just screw off and screw on?

HI everyone, My mixer tap is broken, and I've got a whole new one to replace - looking at this pipe work, is my best course of action just unscrewing the top and fitting the new taps, or is it worth cutting away below the old isolation valves and replacing everything with flexi and a new valve...

Question about groundwork for my garden room

Hi Olly. Great - I'm going to dig around 600mm deep, 150-200mm wide, and then completely fill with concrete and have about 1/3 of the rod out the top. Will definitely use a laser!

Question about groundwork for my garden room

Hi Mike, thanks for replying - that's a really good observation. I plan to concrete the piles into the ground, do you think settling will be as much of an issue?

Question about groundwork for my garden room

Hi everyone, I hope someone can help me with this. I'm knocking down my shed and replacing with a small garden-room type building as a replacement. The shed currently sits on a square brick foundation, but I want to extend both the length and the width. My idea is to keep the original brick...

In a dilemma about what chop saw to buy.. Dewalt DCS365, or Festool KSC 60 (DIY'er)

Thank guys. I think I'll bite the bullet and get it. I can't believe there isn't a decent saw in the middle price range between the 365 and the 727. I know I could probably find a Bosch or Makita, but I really can't be buying into brand new systems at this point. Dewalt need to release a 215mm...

In a dilemma about what chop saw to buy.. Dewalt DCS365, or Festool KSC 60 (DIY'er)

I know how stupid that sounds, but I'm having real trouble with this.. My workshop got broken into at Christmas, but luckily, most of my tools were in my house while I was doing some work. They got away with my circular saw (low range Dewalt XR), my chop saw (DCS365), and my table saw (7458)...

What can you see wrong in this picture? (extension build)

DAZB: Thanks, yeah, I suppose either is just as bad. Notch7 - This occurred during the works and hasn't gotten any worse as far as I'm aware. I'm not sure if regs were sought or granted, these guys were such cowboys it's unreal. The problem with these things is you always assume the people...

What can you see wrong in this picture? (extension build)

DAZB: regarding point 7, do you think that might be responsible for the split? Directly above that bit of wood is the bathroom. I assumed the crack appeared when they dropped the building off the acros onto the steel, but now I'm thinking it might simply be a split caused by the floor bearing...

What can you see wrong in this picture? (extension build)

Thank you! I suspected as much. I'm not an expert, but having done a lot of my own work, I was pretty sure the things mentioned in your list DAZB were present in the picture. Just had to be sure. Really appreciate you taking the time to be so thorough. And yes, the extension is, unfortunately...
