    Reform did well. Again.

After serving 36yrs in the RN, I worked in the Civil Service for 12 years before finally retiring. The work ethic of the office staff was totally alien to what I was used to in the Service. I obviously set too high a bar when working with civvies ;)

    Reform did well. Again.

Public Services - The head count of civil servants has shot up since Covid - Numbers can be reduced simply by ridding the CS of the dead wood who are just biding their time for pension and the slackers. Cut Taxes for the Rich - These rich kids generate a lot of money for the treasury - How many...

What would you do? (Kitchen warranty situation)

That's very sad for a craftsman to go like that. I can understand your frustration to find someone with the same work ethic.

What would you do? (Kitchen warranty situation)

Ask your retired installer for a quote and submit that to the company. Could you encourage your original installer to do the work? I know many retirees who keep their sanity by doing the occasional hobble. I also know many retirees who wouldn't lift their finger as they lol on their sunbeds

    Anglian Flag Hinge Repair Kit

Hot day today and noticed doors would slightly scuff the frame when opening/closing. Assuming due to expansion in the heat, so readjusted slightly. One bottom hinge (vertical adjustment screw) was quite tight compared to the top hinge, so again assumed all the weight is on the bottom hinge...

    Anglian Flag Hinge Repair Kit

I've now managed to change the 2 hinges on the opening door and amazingly it aligns/locks without too much adjustment. Drilling the new holes using paper templates were a bit of a pain as the new holes were very adjacent to the existing holes, which made it tricky controlling the drill bit as it...

    Anglian Flag Hinge Repair Kit

I managed to remove the broken hinge. Ended up using grinder to cut slots in tamper proof screws and the pins to aid their extraction. The replacement hinges come with x2 packing pieces but the video is not clear as to which one to fit. Weather is rain for next few days so plenty of time to...

In recognition for my service to the country

The Veteran's ID card is a relatively new initiative. Legislation by Parliament will be required to add it to the formal list of acceptable ID like the Passport and Driving Licence. Its going to happen hopefully soon as many raised the matter at recent election polling stations where the...

In recognition for my service to the country

Since I retired in 2010 the Navy has extended the age of retirement for those in specialist positions. I know sailors who are now retiring at age 60+ All these would be desk jobs though as a life at sea is still one for the younger ones.

In recognition for my service to the country

Joined straight from school at 16 as a Junior Electrical Mechanic with only Cinderella leave until I was 171/2 years of age when the 'Junior' dropped. I always had to excuse myself from the chicks in nightclubs before midnight with an excuse that I was 'On duty'.
