    My electrician added a spur for a cooker hood. After he left my wife decided that she didn't like the socket where it was - so I chased in a 10 inch run to the other side of the hood, extended the spur by means of a block, and put a blank plate on the original.     But then reverse the process or run through a sequence of testing light to socket and socket to light. Means that the lead need not be 30m long?

    Could I test by running a lead from the earth on the nearest 13a socket to the light earth and vice versa?

    I'm replacing plastic with metal plates. The existing earths run to the back box first and then run a fly to the back of the plate. Is it ok to leave this arrangement for metal plates?
