    woodworm

As Breezer says get specialist advice - sooner rather than later! If it's only a small infestation it can be treated quite simply but if it's everywhere and gets into the roof space -----

    Hotpoint Spin Prob

It's got to drain properly before going into spin. Check to see that the pump is working and not blocked.

    Can 'naked roads' kill speed?

A mate of mine spent some time working in Korea, well known for high accident rates on the road. Every time you had to cross the traffic you took your life in your hands. One day he was at a set of lights (walking) and waited till all was clear before going over the road on a marked crossing...

    Water leak?

Presumably there is an inlet valve that controls the water coming into the machine. At the ripe old age of 15 it sounds as though it's beginning to wear out.

    Door lock not working

There's an electrical interlock behind the door latch. It sounds as though something isn't aligned properly. A real pain to get at though.

    Oven wiring

I believe it's just heavy duty mains cable, nothing special. Check to see what the power rating of your oven is. If it's under 3kW (3000 watts) then you can plug it into a 13A socket (on your cooker point?) You won't be needing the 6mm T&E.

What sort of meter are you using? DVM or moving coil?

    Spur of a Spur !!!!

Well, you'd be all right in the USA then but not much good over here!

New DIY installation nearly finished: Certificate (PartP)?

I suppose if you contacted somebody now then you could reach agreement on that. If you left it until much later then you might have to go through the whole nine yards. (And yes, I'd go for the garage circuit on that one too!)

    two gang switch, one wire?

At the risk of getting burnt in vitriolic hate mail from other readers, if you have a neon tester, then this will do to check for the presence of the live feed. However, if you get an illumination off all three cores then don't come back and say so, go and buy a small moving coil multimeter...

    Single Oven

Don't know, what does it say? I would use heat resistant (not just straight pvc) just because it is likely to be in a warm space. However if in doubt you could always contact the manufacturer and see what they recommend. Mind you if they've already said 2.5mm and a 13A plug I wouldn't have...

    Indesit not taking hot water

Sounds as though the solenoid valve inside the washing machine has gone. This should be located just inside the machine where the hot pipe comes in, that or something is kinked/blocked.

    cold water feed only?

I believe that there is a new euro rule coming in (I think read this somewhere in this forum) that all new machines will be cold feed only. Low temperature washes don't use that much power.

    Part P

No, you can if you're competent. You just have to inform building control prior to commencement of the activity.............. Oh God, I've had enough.

New DIY installation nearly finished: Certificate (PartP)?

Yes, all work started prior to Jan 1st 2005 is exempt from Part P. Following from the above, no. If Part P had applied you would have had to give prior notification to your local building control office. Mind you it's an interesting point abou the end date, but you're still exempt. If...

Wall lights wired to earth instead of neutral. Danger?

If you're really in Turkey then it doesn't say a lot for their wiring regulations!! This will work as long as your earth is OK. However, any fault with the earth and all sorts of nasty things will start to happen ranging from dimming lights to danger of death if you touch anything. It is...

    Single Oven

You shouldn't be using twin and earth to wire into a plug. This is the sort of cable you need - rated at 16 Amps and heat resistant. You can plug it into the ring main but bear in mind that if you have your washing machine on (heating water), oven on and want to boil the kettle while...

    lights not working

Could be a loose connection. If you don't know what you're looking for suggest getting in touch with the original contrator. Have you tried manually operating the trip switch (OFF and then ON) - just in case there's a problem there?

    two gang switch, one wire?

Just some clarification. When you say "three core" do you mean twin and earth or three core and earth? In order to get this right you've got to work out which is the live feed. This can go to COM on one and be linked to COM on the other. Then it's the switched live L1 to each light...

Zanussi - dirt in drum after full load of washing

Depending on your type of water and the detergent you use, your machine can accumulate a build up of crud over time. Now and then some of comes loose and leaves a brownish lumpy deposit on your washing. To stop this from happening, every month or so do a high temperature wash (no clothes)...
