    Let us know how you get on, I also considered Nest. One the plus points for Nest was the stat does not need batteries and it did get me thinking but a good deal on the price of Hive won it for me.

    But you can see and change the wife's heating actions via the Hive over the net, also see what the heating ( house ) temperature looked like yesterday, last week, etc, You can boost either or both heating and hot water from the app if needed i.e getting home early.

    If your old pipe is LCC, let the cutter do the work, don't over push, you can get away with cheap cooking oil as your cutting oil if you must.

    Its possible that the White pipe shown is the problem IF it been incorrectly fitted .i.e part blocking the main stack if to long and not fitted flush in the boss.

    These boilers are worth keeping if it's a simple fix and that's your only problem you have. I would get anther heating engineer to investigate.

    As it comes with a lid, a diy tip for the expansion pipe; Cut a plastic pop bottle in half. The the lid, make a hole so the bottle neck just goes through this hole.     Have you looked at the price of buying 5 yourself, £150 for 5 + fitting, + draining and refilling+ time etc = ubelievable price!
