    Honeywell T45 Wire diagram

If you have decided which unit you are replacing it let us know, it should be straightforward to change over. Some pictures of any motorised valves in the system will give more of an idea of the type of setup it is in.

Installing a nest thermostat e with heat link

Does that white cable from the backplate go to a wiring centre (junction box) near the boiler? If so can you post some pictures? That would normally be the best place to install the Heatlink.

Nest Thermostat (with Open Therm) on Worcester Bosch

The Nest should tell the boiler to lower or raise the water temperature depending on how much heat the house needs to get to the set room temperature. Can you see this setting changing on the boiler display? It's completely up to the boiler itself to modulate the flow of gas to keep the water...

Nest Thermostat (with Open Therm) on Worcester Bosch

Does it look like the Nest is changing the water temp target of the boiler as it should be, depending on how close the room temperature is to the setting on the Nest? Must admit I don't like the idea of the pump running continuously and the boiler trying to run with a lower water temperature...

Can I ‘Throttle’ my stop cock?

Many years ago I tried to tame the high pressure on my own supply using the stop cock and it just resulted in annoying hissing whenever a cold tap was opened. Much better to install a pressure reducing valve which gives better control and can help get rid of noises including water hammer.

    Central heating/hot water issue

Try to keep an eye on the pressure gauge when the boiler is running for a while to see if it increases towards the 3 bar mark. That would indicate a problem with the expansion vessel and you would then be likely to lose some water/pressure via the safety valve (PRV).

    Vaillant 418 HW cycling / S.7 question

Last time I had similar problems I found our Grundfos pump impeller was clogged with small flakes of magnetite. You can close the valves at both sides of the pump body and easily dismantle it with an Allen key. Mine was much quieter and back to working properly after a gentle scrape out and a...

    Vaillant 418 HW cycling / S.7 question

The s53 suggests there is insufficient flow of water through the boiler; it throws this code when there is too great a difference between the flow and return temperatures. The rapid rise in flow temp, even when the water in the rest of the central heating system system is starting from cold, is...

Valliant ecotec plus 418 slow to startup/heatup CH

When it is running at higher power is the water temperature shooting up quickly towards 70C? If so you likely have a flow restriction which is causing the boiler to back off the power for a while to avoid overshooting. On my Vaillant I need to have the pump set to max to avoid similar problems.

Valliant ecotec plus 418 slow to startup/heatup CH

Isn’t d0 the setting for the maximum power in kW on all of these Vaillant boilers? I would have thought it’s range would be adjustable from very roughly 5kW to 18kW and reading the above I’m not sure what yours is set to at the moment. It is normal for the boiler to run at medium power for a...

    Cold rads?

What size are the pipes to the TRV? If much smaller than 15mm a pipe blockage becomes more of a possibility and the TRV could be OK. If you don’t have white carpets nearby and aren’t afraid of some water spillage you could put some towels down and very cautiously slacken off the pipe connection...

How to fix shower screen to stud wall

Think something like spring toggles would give a more secure grip on a stud plasterboard wall. https://www.screwfix.com/c/screws-nails-fixings/spring-toggle/cat840118

Moving waste pipe closer to wall...

Can I add my interest in this one? Seems to be a common problem so a few dimensions and photos of the progress would be extremely useful. It won’t be long before I’ll be faced with the same job.

    Balancing the central heating

The leaking spindle sticks out through a large nut which you can see covered in water in the picture. See if that nut needs tightening up a small fraction of a turn. If it ends up too tight the valve may become excessively stiff to open and close.

    Location of radiator without TRV

The simplest thing to experiment with would be to almost close off the lock shield valve on the radiator where the thermostat is located so the small hall takes much longer to get up to temperature and the rest of the house has a chance to warm up before the thermostat switches off. If that...

    Vaillant Ecotec Plus 428 S53

Yes its output is too much for the house, I’ve honestly no idea what I was thinking when I had it installed 14 years ago. I have set d0 to 18kW and the boiler behaves fine under all other circumstances. It’s only ever caught out (when flow is already at higher temperatures) by the rush of cold...

    Vaillant Ecotec Plus 428 S53

In my open vented Y plan system when heating up only the DHW cylinder with the boiler flow somewhere around 70C the S53 code is regularly appearing if the CH is then turned ON. The system is clean, the pump is healthy (set to max speed) and flow is good even when only DHW is being heated. I can...

    Noisy cistern.

Is this a bang that goes through the water pipes? Most likely when full the valve is cutting off the water very rapidly which results in "water hammer". If you've never had this problem before anywhere in the house then replacing the whole inlet/float valve assembly on the left of the picture...

Blocked Microbore to Loft Conversion Radiator

If you have at least some flow through the problem radiator it would be worth trying to run some cleaner through the system with only that radiators valves open IMO. If you can easily get the cleaner into the towel rail it's OK to leave both of it's valves open long enough to get the stuff...
