Wiring diagram to light half or all of room?

If I read you rightly you have X amount of lights in your room. You want the capability to either switch some of them on with one switch, or switch them all on with the other. http://www.diynot.com/wiki/electrics:lighting Have a look at this it may help you to realise that there is no...

    RCD Tripping

When you say you "disconnected" the shower can we take it you physically removed the large cable from inside the shower unit? or did you disconnect the large cable from the switch with the red light? If you did the first then I hope you made that cable safe, as when you activated the switch...

    Tidying lighting circuit.

No need to do that as that comes under retro, but as the switch lines didn't seem to be marked originally, otherwise he would have put the sleeve back on, he should sleeve them, Brown to the new regs if he is working to that. I know that if you have old red sleeve on the van use it, common...

    Tidying lighting circuit.

Just for discussion sake should we advocate sleeving that switch line RED? If we follow the red book it states that AC power circuits, including lights must be identified as brown. You can only use red now for ELV, control circuits and others ( what others may be) Benway don't go and...

Before you do anything else to the cable get yourself one of these http://www.tech-faq.com/multimeter.html The chances are that however bad the company were they would not leave a live cable sticking out of the wall, but you MUST check to make sure that it is not live. Once you have...

    Tidying lighting circuit.

The live loops are a bit "banjo Stringed" for me. Would have put a sweep on them as you never know if you need to reterminate sometime in the future. Not sure if white insulation tape is really right, ok for just identifying the switch line temporary but brown would be better.

    Connecting earth to gas pipe

Or you could note on the EIC where you have "Hidden" the connection to make it Accessible. If you put it under the floor boards though do you then have to make a flap or lid to class it as accessible or just screwing the boards down still class it as accessible?

Need to install a socket circuit for shop fridges

How many fridges are there? Is there a 3 phase supply in the shop? If there is and you have say 6 fridges wouldn't it be better to balance them 2 on each phase. Are you going to RCD protect them? As fridges have High current leakages if you RCD them you may find they trip a lot...

PAT testing equipment. What brand and how much?

So if you worked 12 hours a day 6 days a week that is nearly 42 units an hour. That is bar scanning each unit if that is what they use, and not writing into a log. If it's a new unit creating a base history for it. Carry out a visual, do the insulation test as it's class 2, printing the...

    Testing

Ask away that is really the only way to learn. Would recommend that book Chris is quite good and it uses English rather than something lawyers use. If you just starting to test keep safe and make sure think twice and act once.

    Hall/landing light problem

Pictures would help http://www.diynot.com/wiki/electrics:lighting This may help you Those black in the L2 of the switch will not be neutrals so it may help you to read above and get an handle of how the thing should be wired. You will need some sort of multi meter to trace out the...

    Testing

Did you leave the shower and Boiler connected when you did the testing ? If you did then that would explain why you got low readings, in fact with them connected they are not bad. Did you test the installation or just individual circuits ? If you did the whole installation it is...

    RCD Amp rating. Diversity

You wouldn't normally do sub divisions of the installation like that. But as I said it's a good rule of thumb for an installation and you could class your 63amp RCD as a sub division so 38amps seems about right.
