Replacing consumer unit - need junction box (SCOTLAND)

It is though recommended in the BS 7671 and most of the recognised agencies ie Niceic, Napit etc that a consumer unit change requires an Electrical Installation Certificate Schedule of Inspection and a schedule of results that is anywhere in the UK. I'm not fully conversant with Scotland...

wiring a junction box with two switch circuits

He did ask though BaS how could this be wired, I just gave an example of how it could be done. There are numerous ways of doing it really that was just an example. I did say though it was a guess-timate without seeing the wiring. I was wondering if by "all the cable there' he meant 3...

    Difficulty turning off electric shower

Agree but I would use Contact cleaner or GT85 but most people have a can of WD and if it works and frees the knob up then you can think of getting perhaps a better lubricant. No point buying something that will not work. At least WD will prove if it can free it

wiring a junction box with two switch circuits

Chances are there is a 3 core cable at your light switch. The chances are that this will be RED, YELLOW, BLUE with a bare copper cable. The REd would be a live and that would go to the common of one switch and a link out of that to the common on the other side. The YELLOW and BLUE would...

pjd1.jpg Terminal_Block_2way_AKZ4_Klippon ADR3575‑S7874.jpg Best way to do it or you can crimp each cable. You realise that all this work will need a EIC and so will be eother notafiable to the Local Building Control or done by an Electrician in a...

    RCBO trips RCD

Is the RCD protecting cb's I'm assuming. What is your board configuration 2 rcd's I assume and a double pole switch. Your RCBO's should be on the non protected side. This means that after the main switch and before the RCD's. Most boards you can configure to do that by moving things up...

    Difficulty turning off electric shower

You could try isolating the power from your CU take the fron cover off and if you have a meter of some kind just test to make sure it is dead. You may find that a good squirt of WD 40 or Contact cleaner might just free it up a little. Make sure a cable or anything is stopping it's movement...

Does LABC Certificate of Completion cover the electrics too?

My local BC had about 3 or 4 inspectors for building work. When I dealt with them there was just the one guy who did the electrical side. As the building inspectors go and do site vists during the build's various stages I found the electrical guy never. He basically had no idea about the...

    Lighting earth problem

If the lighting was RCD protected you may have a neutral earth cross somewhere on the circuit. While you had the earths in a plastic rose no problem, but by fitting metal fittings you may now have unbalanced the circuit with a crossed connection. Or you may have mistaken a swich live...

Do I need a Periodic Inspection Report?

And don't think the BC are clueless either. The worse case scenario is that they can make you undo all this work if you didn't get the right documentation. The sorry but I didn't know, isn't a defence with the BC. They take the view that you should have least asked if you wasn't sure, . You...

Do I need a Periodic Inspection Report?

To be honest you may be between a rock and a hard place here. Some BC are very understanding and if you contacted them telling them you had your electrical installation done and didn't receive documentation they my issue you a certificate on a comprehensive PIR. They though will most likely...
