    Apprenticeship help

I'd become a Postman  Seriously though, 4 years isn't a long time and if you are doing both plumbing and gas/oil you will have a good trade, which in theory should keep you in installation/maintenance work, with a good wage. See you giving advice on this forum in a few years, yeah...

Using 22mm in the middle of a 15mm installation

Are you being serious? For the cost of a length of 15mm pipe and a bit, is it worth recyclying a bit of 22mm inc fittings? Yeh, the cost of reusing a length of pipe in comparison to recycle value is better, but you are scrapping the barrel. Stop being a 'tight a**s*' and do the job...

    wood burners and gas fires

It's to do with nostalgia. Us oldies brought up with a coal fire to heat the whole house, appreciate the comfort of crowding round a glowing fire, to warm the cockles of our heart. Nostalgia gets us to rip out old gas fires and put in wood/coal burners to relive our tough upbringing and...

    Central Heating radiator pipe centres

Sorry old school - 1inch 3/4" or 45mm in new money, with a nice 22mm hole for slight adjustment. :)

    Condensate pipe

Last one I saw (before I changed their boiler) was just poking out the wall and discharging onto their patio. I cannot see any problem discharging into a gutter which is connected to a combined drainage system.

    Weeping stop cock

No don't agree - it won't do anything. Sounds like due to the age of the stop valve and lack of movement over the years, which is not the fault of the plumber, it now should be replaced.

    Domestic cold water system

If you only have 15mm incoming it will be pointless to change to 22mm. Run the lot in 15mm. If you have any downwater services from a cold water tank then you will get the benefit of starting in 28/22mm from the tank.

Hot water only when timer is on - please help

N No your not being vague. Have a look up in the loft and tell me what you see. The hot water cylinder will probably have to pipes coming out the side of it, one at the bottom and one out of the top. About a third of the way up you may find a small box(thermostat) strapped around the...

Hot water only when timer is on - please help

Cannot see why the 'timeguard' controls the Central Heating or how it is set up :? Bit difficult without more information, which I don't think you will be able to answer, but lets try. Do you know if your hot water cylinder has a thermostat strapped to it? Do you have a room thermostat...

Hot water only when timer is on - please help

THe boiler that you have which you say is behind the fireplace. Is this a gas backboiler? If this heats your hot water and central heating then you must have a separate programmer to control it in addition to the Timeguard. What other controls do you have?

Hot water only when timer is on - please help

The timeguard controls your immersion heater, which heats your hot water in the cylinder. If you are not getting any hot water then you have a problem with immersion heater or the timer. When you say you get hot water if the Central heating is on, do you have another programmer for your...

What do you remember about the 70s?

First car was a Triumph Herald then my Dad's old Morris Oxford. Took the head off that, changed the valve guides and decoked. And it worked afterwards. :o
