    Pipework - elbows vs. bends

All bends are restrictions in the flow. The wider the bend the better but a swept bend (as in your picture) is better than an elbow. So that is fine. :)

New gas pipes being fitted, terrible

Did you discuss the pipe run beforehand, and was alternative options given? From your point of view, is there a better alternative, and did you tell them before installation, and if so did they give you any reasons it could not be done that way.

What do you remember about the 70s?

Also great days of school - teachers could hit you with anything that came to hand- slipper, cane, rope, board rubber and give verbal abuse. Great days! Cassette players and radio luxenbourg. :)

What do you remember about the 70s?

70's my teenage years. Best years of our lives (Steve Harley!) although we didn't know it at the time. Platform shoes, flares, long hair, brutus shirts, two tone trousers, red socks. Then brush denim and cheesecloth. Great music, lots of strikes. Still playing our music now. Where did it all...

Why do you accept cheap boilers?

All good on paper and I agree but..... Customer cannot afford or source initial boiler outlay for mid to high-range boiler. So what do they do? No boiler and freeze; or cheap boiler; or mid-range boiler fitted by man on horseback with 1 day guarantee! If your working for a manufacturer...

Why do you accept cheap boilers?

Speaking as an RGI I would agree that everyone should fit the best they can afford, but in reality not all customers can afford the dearer end of the market, and I'm not talking about the guys lookinig for cheap, cheap, cheap just to save a couple of hundred quid! That is why we act as...

    Boiler not coming on

Taking rad off in bathroom wouldn't effect it unless you didn't refill the system (if we knew what system you have?) Why do you have a stat in the airing cupboard - or am I missing something? Nice touch with the hook on the wiring box by the way!

    Boiler not coming on

Easily answered. Do you have a thermostat on the hot water cylinder?

    Hot water pump

Turn on one hot tap and let it run. Does it give a nice full flow, or does it slow down or spit as it's flowing? Check with all hot water outlets. On the hot pipe that rises up into the loft and back down again, have an air release point or is it just a straight run.?

    Boiler not coming on

Also when you switch the programmer to CH or HW demand, does the boiler make any noise? Signs of the fan running or a clicking noise? If nothing then problem lies, as Ben says, with the pump or MV/s.

    Hot water pump

Before you go down the pump line, have you checked that the hot supplies don't have air locked in the pipes? Air will restrict the flow and even stop it .

Can I do this? Or is it a "water" short circuit!

No don't. Not only is it a bodge, it will also weaken the pipe at that point and in worst case split the pipe causing a leak.

Can I do this? Or is it a "water" short circuit!

What you have done is provide a 'through circuit' which was a typical way of providing a 'bypass', to protect the boiler from overheating, but agree with problems with balancing. :)

    Boiler not coming on

Sounding like a motorised valve problem, but need more info as Ben says.

    Leak from DHW cylinder connection

Your not in a position to give it a quick 'nip up'. Drain down it looks like and redo joint - if you can. If joint doesn't take at least you won't have all that water going everywhere.

Please help!!!! I have used lead solder all over the place!!

God if your worrying about a bit of lead soldering, what hope do we have!Dealing with lead over the years, having carbon monoxide spilling from gas bottles, and 'us older ones' picking asbestos off our mum's ironing board and rolling asbestos plugs with a bit of spit for screwing into walls...

Silly question; why do we use motorised diverter valves?

It looks much neater zoneing with MV's than seeing banks of bulky pumps. And what about increase the size of system boilers to incorporate three pumps! :)
