It was an airlock in the system..connected a hose from cold to hot water from washing machine and worked a treat. Thanks all for replies.

After a mains pipe burst up here just got the water back after a day..however cold flow is fine but only a small amount of (cold) water comes from the hot tap before drying up..any ideas ? TIA
