    if the rooms are large you could batton the external walls insulate then put plaster board over the top. if the rooms are small you are looking at external cladding? If the house is built on chalk it is likely that the original foundations are just wider brick walls which is normally fine.

    depends on how large the gabions are and you have the bonding to the conc.? I think the main advantage is that the pipes dont get in the way during construction like a post would.

    the only way I have seen this done is to put 110mm pipe into the gabion beore they are filled with stone. then the posts go in and back filled with conc.

    Try power washing it off first to rmove most off the brick work then acid. If the bricks are soft a wire brush will spoil it. If the washer takes some of the mortar out it is easy to put back.

    Wet the wall down well prior to pointing. Use a fairly moist mix and finish the job before its gone off too far. Are the joints really shallow? they should be 15mm min.
