Yep our boiler, PRV fitted and no valve between F&E pipe and CH pump on the return and vent pipe lagged and goes over top of header tank and AAV fitted on flow of coil pipe of immersion cylinder

I'd be concerned on a system without a seperate vent pipe hanging over top of F&E header tank that someone had put a gate valve on the feed (that acts as expansion) that if they closed the valve there would be no where for air water to escape should boiler overheat

a lot of AAV's these days come with a valve underneath so when you unscrew/remove the bottle part of the AAV the water shuts off so you can replace the AAV if it packs up and needs replacing, as the thread of the AAV screws back on it just automatically opens up the washer

this is how I understand feed and vent (this is not combined F&E) to work , it acts as one way valve so it wont suck air in through the vent pipe - but it will expand when it needs to and release into tank if boiler overheats:

are your copper pipes going to your boiler 22mm or 28mm ? - fully pumped or gravity or gravity/pumped?

Odd , not seen that combined F&E before done that way - the only combined F&E I have seen is the pic I posted above , where the vent pipe hangs over the top of the header tank And older systems fed and vented like this:

hi - have you got an AAV anywhere in the system pipework at all? - if you have you can try opening up black/red plastic cap and see if any air releases?

yes your most probably correct , there is even a filter behind the jet on this burner . im just gonna keep an eye on it. A new jet wont break the bank but a analyzer would . In that case I will get someone to come out and do it

Sorted within minutes of posting this I went out, took off blast tube and cleaned electrodes and jet and its firing up now and staying fired up - hopefully fingers crossed that is all it was , I am just keeping an eye on it.
