    New C/H room thermostat

    What he said was...

    New C/H room thermostat

He wasn't proposing that. He was suggesting powering the thermostat (with volt-free switching) from the lighting circuit. RCD will not trip.

    Wiring LED batten

The main point is that they don't even claim it's class 2, and yet provide no earth connection. I am rather dubious what they mean by purification as well. Are they going to purify your eyes or what?

    New C/H room thermostat

I thought it was volt-free thermostat contacts - not likely to cause a separate issue! Might be hard to demonstrate, but not dangerous.

Oh come on - 'stripping back the insulation'. Must admit I missed the one and one bit being 11 though. Obvious when you realise!

Regarding extra light to existing circuit

...and you connect the earth to the earth block, using some green/yellow sleeving

Vent Axia Extractor Fan not working - "twitching"

Either is fine - the voltage of the replacement just shouldn't be lower. Physical size tends to increase with voltage.

Regarding extra light to existing circuit

I would imagine you can get more than one wire in a connector position.

MCD and RCD tripping at the same time

Although we don't know what make or model your hob is, a search on the internet for that and 'E6' will give you several results. Sounds like a pcb needs replacing.

    No green/yellow?

Lighting and sockets advice in refurb

Interesting, I assume that plasterboard comes with a height of 2.4m to save having to have a join, so I guess that 2.3m is less than 100mm lower than most homes. I detest pendant lights anyway, but that is my choice. Using the ceiling to reflect upward facing light has always been my favourite.

    Garden office electrics

Yes, but what size fuse or MCB does it come from?

Separate lives and neutrals through conduit

For one thing the earth would not be insulated.

Separate lives and neutrals through conduit

Singles must also *stay* in conduit for their full length. They can't emerge just because it's convenient

    French and German plugs

So did I till I read about them a while ago. I assume it was a kluge to create some compatibility. I wish people would be consistent when describing adapters, regarding 'to' and 'from'!

    Standby generator questions

I find it hard to see how a very tiny variation in net demand, which averaged over the whole country it will be, (except during a solar eclipse) could be described as 'dangerous' or resulting in 'low volts/wobbling frequency due the the amount of feed in power without a frequency reference'.

    French and German plugs

Should be 4.8mm (the 2-pin German ones are 4mm but designed to mate with the earthed sockets by leaning the pins towards each other).

    Standby generator questions

I've heard it before - from Eric.

    Standby generator questions

Huh? Feed-in power is synchronised to the grid frequency - as it clearly has to be.
