    Range Anxiety

I watched the above yesterday and was surprised that so many charging points are out of operation: I thought that was an early phenomenon and this problem would have been fixed now. The charge rate of the charging points is very important ( and putting in fast-chargers everywhere would be...

How do you know what needs doing each year at a service?

" Do they ? Do you have any proof ? Personally I would have thought they repelled moisture. I do agree that most moisture absorbtion is likely to occur on cold start-up ( gut-feel, no back-up ). I find it less likely that oil - static in the crank-case - absorbs moisture .

    Range Anxiety

It reads as if this is a public i.e. governmental responsibility/ tax-payer cost. I am not entirely on-board with that unless the costs are amortised in the charging rates.

    EV are they worth it?

Down to what level ? Phones - or perhaps only phones with generic rather than genuine batteries ?

Correct way to jump-start a car

I think that has to be the best method: no chance of ECU/system damage.

How do you know what needs doing each year at a service?

Just happened across these two short videos where oil is submitted at 5k,7.5k and 10k intervals to compare results. - 6mins 40 - 4 mins 30 One comment from the lab that may be of interest to people, is that they say time has no effect on the oil, only usage.

    Spring snapped twice!

No I haven't, but believe that for me it would simply be a loud noise that would startle me, but not so that I would hit the floor as if it were a drive-by !:giggle:

    Mini Clubman/Countryman servicing info?

I read generally that the Mini has a poor reputation for reliablity - especially when a few years old - and spares are very expensive. Cars now BMW-engineered and thought to be unnecessarily complex.

Lexus nx 300h 2016 (Water pump weeping)

Since this presumably includes replacement of drive-belt and maybe some guides, this doesn't seem extortionate for a "rare" car I'm guessing that buying the genuine pump alone would cost you £100 -£150.

How do you know what needs doing each year at a service?

Starts at £35 from these people, but just a superficial scan of the info says that is only for soot, water, viscosity but no metals. Metals start at £45 and go up to £ 65. https://www.theoillab.co.uk/product-category/oil-testing/engine/

How do you know what needs doing each year at a service?

Well, that sounds a lot like the wood- stain I use on my house: it's warranted for ten years but needs re-doing after three. Can you find the details of the warranty anywhere on the tin, do the retailers know what they are ? No, and i know that it's a waste of time to try and chase it I bet if...

How do you know what needs doing each year at a service?

Re: Manufacturers recommended intervals. I think these really need treatng with caution, because - contrary to what some are saying - the intervals can be stretched so that the "cost of ownership" can be shown to be artificially low to those so-important fleet-buyers. Since those are usually...

    Blackcircles : on-line tyre purchases

Update showing mails to avoid my need to paraphrase everything :giggle: and still leave you fully informed. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Tyre age Regarding the age of the tyres supplied at the start of last year, I am sorry that you are not happy with this. We work under the...

    G4 20W 12V

Any suggestions please for a decent long-lasting on-line brand for the above . The current unbranded ones died after 10 years. Of the current two, one is blackened but the other seems unmarked and no visible breaks. Should it still light if the other fails ? Thanks

    Replacement Battery

The Trust pilot reviews look rather suspicious to me. A number of one-star reviews followed by several five-star one which are surprisingly similar: they are just a few lines emphasizing" great price, quick delivery " " Ordered a new battery on Sunday evening 7pm It arrived Tuesday morning 10am...

    Change rear-brake pads - Vectra C

Thanks everybody, I think you've cleared up my queries, however I am left with one and am uncertain whether it ought to be another thread or not. What can you do if the automatic hand-brake adjustment isn't giving a good result i.e. lever well up but iffy hold ? EDIT: Looked on a Vectra-C...

    Change rear-brake pads - Vectra C

Harry, doesn't answer why the piston didn't engage/wasn't engaged on the thread and therefore retract when I was sitting there using a ratchet. If it's on the thread, it shouldn't also need pressure.

    Change rear-brake pads - Vectra C

Today I set out to do the above. It was only the second time I have ever changed rear pads on a car needing a rewind tool, and the first time I used a pair of circlip pliers as I didn't have the tool: as I recall it was laborious but went smoothly enough. Following that I bought a kit for the...

    Blackcircles : on-line tyre purchases

I sent a second mail after a week as no response and this has now been acknowledged. I'll be sure to update with the outcome. Just for interest, I was surprised that the take-over by Cooper Tire was as far back as 1997, and then Cooper was bought by Goodyear in 2021. I doubt that BlackCircles...
