Am I ok with this wall light?

just found this article, which state NO to using a higher rated bulb than what the lamp states. Guess I am out on this one then :( https://info.kensplumbing.net/blog/can-i-use-a-higher-watt-bulb-than-recommended

Am I ok with this wall light?

Yes, whilst replying to ericmark, i did wonder if I am mixing up the lumiere with the wattage, hence my comment about me not understanding the LED Hut article. Unfotunately the JL lamps don't refer to traditional incandescent bulbs and only to the new ones. I don't think their halogen bulbs...

Am I ok with this wall light?

thank you. i know that lamps always have a label on the bulb holder to state the maximum wattage for the bulb, which is either 40W, 60W or 100W. I had put this down to the size of wiring that has been used inside the lamp itself but what you are saying is that the lamp has been built of a...

Am I ok with this wall light?

Thanks. My knowledge is not good enough to understand what you are explaining. My concern is with the power rating on the wiring. I don't want to burn the damn lamps out by shoving a 60W bulb into a lamp that is designed to only hold a 40W bulb, if we refer to old traditional bulbs. I found...

Am I ok with this wall light?

Sorry if this is a trivial question but I have looked at the info on the net and it doesn't really the answer the question, so would like to hear from the experts on here! I have a wall light that needs replacing. I currently use the traditional incandescent 60W bulbs. I have a few of these...

    Plumber telling me fibs?

i have never actually replaced the taps myself but i like DIY and so i have seen youtube videos on how to do it and it seems simple enough to do, except the fiddling around in a very tight space and trying to get the blooming old taps off can be difficult. however, i had never anticipated that...

    Plumber telling me fibs?

thanks I will do as this seems to be the only explanation of why he thinks the one he suggests would be a quick fit and not the one I want to buy.

    Plumber telling me fibs?

this answer makes more sense to me. i have the same taps now as the one he suggests. this would make me think that he is not replacing the whole tap but just the front bit as you say. this would look very silly surely as the back bit is very old! there is already a shower holder on the wall...

    Plumber telling me fibs?

i see. i understood you remove the taps from the connectors under the bath then you connect the new taps to these connectors. i didn't think the connections under the bath would be any different for the two sets but it would appear that I am wrong. you absolutely sure about this?

    Plumber telling me fibs?

I do know a little bit about plumbing so I think my plumber is telling me total rubbish but I would like to check that I am not missing something. He fixed a bathroom tap for me where the tap handle on the cold water was just going round and round so the water could not be turned off. He glued...

    Immersion heaters tripping

i thought the RCD protection is at the consumer unit? so why would the consumer unit be made without RCD protection for some of the fuses? sorry, i know a little bit about electrics but very little.

    Immersion heaters tripping

i think the green storage heating MCB is the day time immersion heater, which is protected by the RCD. the 40amp MCB is not protected by the RCD because it is labelled in red and only the green labelled MCB are protected by the RCD? why would two of the MCB not have RCD protection?

    Immersion heaters tripping

here is the circuit details for the consumer unit that i was given. i think the night immersion heater is connected to the 40A MCB and the day time one is connected to an incorrectly labelled Storage Heating 1.

    Immersion heaters tripping

so the dynorod plumber came back and found that one of the immersion heater that he had installed were damaged so he put in two new immersion heaters again. the hot water is working fine now but when the night immersion heater becomes live at night, the main RCD trips again. the night time...

    Immersion heaters tripping

i put it down to those two red switches were for the night supply, the storage heaters and the immersion heater and that the 40 amp was there so he used it.

    Immersion heaters tripping

no, different guy as the other guy lives too far away for this job, which he would consider too small. the new electrician said the consumer unit was not put in well but he didn't say the wiring in there was the cause of the short circuit. he claims it is the elements themselves that are short...

    Immersion heaters tripping

yes. that seems to say only the 40amp is the immersion heater, but the wall switch labelled water heater only lights up when the 16 amp fuse switch labelled storage heater is turned on.
