Fixing TT earthing problems and gas bonding for an EV charger

Thanks for the replies again, they're much appreciated. Am I correct in thinking that you are both suggesting using the same wire and looping through the gas earth point to the water one using a single cable to fulfil their single continuous conductor? If so I may have a problem doing that as...

Fixing TT earthing problems and gas bonding for an EV charger

Here's a better photo of the gas bonding I've found. Hopefully that's acceptable for Octopus.

Fixing TT earthing problems and gas bonding for an EV charger

I asked Octopus to clarify what they will accept for the gas bonding and they came back with the following. Looking at the photos of our supply pipe they look to be yellow plastic so hopefully that covers it anyway however as the surveyor reported the earthing to be good on the gas when the...

Thanks for the correction and goes to show you have to be careful what you read.

Everyday day is a school day, just some more than others.

Fixing TT earthing problems and gas bonding for an EV charger

Thanks for the explanation. Looks like the dangers are small but you can be unfortunate. Then again I wonder how many earth rods have rotted away to nothing or been disconnected completely over the years. The fact that all of our neighbours have a TT system made me wonder if we would have been...

Fixing TT earthing problems and gas bonding for an EV charger

Based upon the answers given by you and others in this thread staying with TT looks to be the easier and potentially better option. Interesting to learn the difference between PME and TN-C-S, I thought the terms were interchangeable. For anyone else that finds this thread in future and would...

Fixing TT earthing problems and gas bonding for an EV charger

Thanks for the reply, the info on this thread has made my day. Incidentally there is a very old earthing connector with the frayed remnants of a cable attached to it on a water pipe near to the CU so my guess is that sometime in this house's 100 year history the water pipes were the earth.

Fixing TT earthing problems and gas bonding for an EV charger

Thank you very much for a fast answers again. It sounds like I should just bond them internally regardless then and being able to use the same cable as the water will save a hell of a lot of disruption.

Fixing TT earthing problems and gas bonding for an EV charger

Your right, Octopus will only fit a charger with an additional consumer unit regardless of whether you have a brand new consumer unit as I asked this exact question. I can understand where they're coming from as doing this means that they don't have to worry about the rest of the electrics in...

Fixing TT earthing problems and gas bonding for an EV charger

Thank you every one for the rapid replies, much appreciated. Here's a picture of the meter and the earthing rod as it stands. Looking at the pipe entering the gas meter housing it's hard to tell what it's connected to as it disappears into the hockey stick. From the pictures is it possible...

Fixing TT earthing problems and gas bonding for an EV charger

We've ordered an EV charger via Octopus and they came and did a site survey and we have a few problems that need addressing. The house has a TT electrical system and the earthing rod resistance came back as 350 ohms and they want it lower than 200 ohms. The second problem is the gas meter is...

Boiler efficiency in the real world - old WB vs new Intergas

@mrbrunes Just a further update on this. The Xclusive 36 boiler was installed as scheduled and the end result is a boiler that works as expected and all of the building regs paperwork and warranty has been sent through. While I have no idea how efficient it is compared to the old boiler as...

Boiler efficiency in the real world - old WB vs new Intergas

Sorry for the delay replying to this. We've held out so that the change could be done in the better weather and it's always easier to book an annual service at this time of year rather than in winter. Anyway we've gone for an Xclusive 36 as the DHW specs are similar to the old boiler and we''ve...

Boiler efficiency in the real world - old WB vs new Intergas

The house has two bathrooms and there are two adults and one child in it generally having one or two showers a day each (rarely at the same time) and the usual washing up. The pipework between kitchens and bathrooms is quite short. Based upon the summer and winter bills I'd guess across the...

Boiler efficiency in the real world - old WB vs new Intergas

This is what I'm experiencing as I think our old boiler only goes down to about 10.5kw. My understanding is that it removes the purging before and after the boiler fires which is good which helps a little however it seems that the actual answer is, as with a lot of things, it depends. This has...

Boiler efficiency in the real world - old WB vs new Intergas

The Wiser system is OpenTherm compatible. I also appreciate that there's more to heating than just the boiler however I'd be happy with a 10% - 14% improvement. As for turning the heating up afterwards, that's a separate question :D

Boiler efficiency in the real world - old WB vs new Intergas

Not loads at about £550 to £600 a year but if it makes £60 or £70 a year difference then over 10 years and with not having the the repair costs of the WB then it starts to make more financial sense. I'd spotted that the Xclusive modulated down to about 4kw instead of the 7kw+ of the Eco RF.

Boiler efficiency in the real world - old WB vs new Intergas

@Razor900 Thanks for the info. The extra simplicity, lower cost and extra warranty draws me to the Xclusive. I'm based in Bromsgrove, Worcestershire and have spoken with one of the recommended installers who gave a ballpark of £2K based upon description and I've not heard back from the other...

Boiler efficiency in the real world - old WB vs new Intergas

Thanks for the quick replies and info. I've got a Drayton Wiser thermostat with remote control radiator valves on almost all rads. This system supports opentherm so hopefully that should all work with the Intergas. As it's replacing an existing system where the pipework and waste for condensate...
