To my surprise when I changed from rewireable fuses to push in MCBs I had to changed the bases as well. Even though both were 30A
I guess rewireable base encased the melting metal and live bits.
Well on the first way, the bakerlite has a notch to the right of the second screw down.
I take your point that the metal contacts aren’t any different. I guess things improved over time. And then they gave up!
So this one will accept a 45a next to the main switch only. Assuming coloured part has a tab.

Can you see how???!!! Probably not
Put your glasses on John. It’s more of a small tab sticking out.
Yes, wylex cartridge fuses did come out rather late when everyone had moved on.
Never the less, it’s a second example showing the tab.
If you get the appropriate coloured base, and it won’t fit, (fooling tab) then it won’t take 40A.
It looks modern though, in Wylex terms, so you stand a chance
Well one of the problem is British Gas. They seam completly incompetent at the simplest of electric switches/tasks even when provided with the meter numbers etc.
Steer clear of the place, and find somewhere else. It will be less stressful!
Go ahead that way if difficult to access light circuit.
Or you can borrow an earth off another circuit if easier. And be more logical when switching off circuits.
Most oral B chargers I have seen, do have uk shaver plugs in them. Certainly getting that plug and base should not be a problem.
Problems are more electrical. Ie if the cab has an isolation transformer, it’s not great to run it 24/7. Heat. Humming.
