If the furthest socket is 25m away for the CU then I think that is a big old house rather than a normal/modern house.

Advice - First Fix Ring main or Radial?

Well, its obvious. If you want to plug the same load into the sockets. (for example a kitchen). Then a radial will either need to be 4 or 6mm And as an the op is more of a DIYer, its a bit silly to have to buy one real of 4mm when you can use 2.5mm on a ring. I'm sure you investigated 4mm...

Advice - First Fix Ring main or Radial?

There are always arguments both ways on smoke alarms. But as this is fresh, you may as well run the supply back to the CU. You can do either then. I quote like having burglar alarm and smokes on the same rcbo. B6 You could even put the boiler on that too if you wanted to save money...

Hager Pilot App on iPhone, How do I update my AFDD's firmware?

Lol Look up DSES on YouTube. There will be lots of complaining about them and swearing, but I think he did connect his phone to it at some point. I think he has an Android Most of the time he couldn’t get them to trip on an arc, so it’s interesting to hear yours are tripping.

Electric heater plug just exploded - what would have caused that?

can't have an AFDD with a Ring. I guess the answer to that is to split it into 2 radials and spend even more money on AFDDs and large CUs
