    The Environment.

Seems to be the way these days in nearly all aspects of life. OT but a while back I was watching a tv prog about folk renovating an old property. They found possible bat activity and did the right thing, stopped the works and informed bats.gov.uk. What then followed was months of largely...

Will Iran and the US reach a long term cease fire this weekend?

How DARE you suggest such a thing! ;)

Is it murder or man slaughter

Not referring to this case, just making the wider point. Depends what the defence and/or experts put forward as mitigating circumstances. e.g. you could have a wife who's endured years of abuse at the hands of her husband and she snaps one day when he's beating her up, stabbing him multiple...

Will Iran and the US reach a long term cease fire this weekend?

Surely one of thee most relevant questions is, once this is over, what are we left with in that region? A situation that is more stable and less volatile than it was before the States started this, or one that is less stable and more volatile? Or will it be largely the same as it was prior to?

    Funniest members

Have to admit, as I've said before, I find the 'reported' and 'oh my god why?' banter funny, sometimes lol levels. Not entirely sure why. I think it's because I imagine you actually saying it to each other. Yeah, for me, that to and fro is funny, although not credited to a specific forum...

House price gravy train may have hit the buffers

The risk is this (it's already starting to happen in some areas). More and more legislation for landlords to adhere to. Less profit margin (shock horror, it's a business). More hoops to jump through. The parity in the landlord <> tenant relationship edging more and more in favour of the tenant...

House price gravy train may have hit the buffers

We're a funny lot as human beings. Folk moaning about stuff like property going up in value, folk benefitting from inherited property etc, however I suspect if many (most?) of these moaners found themselves in the same position, they'd be quite happy, no? I sometimes use the analogy of someone...

House price gravy train may have hit the buffers

Many of the younger generation expect to be able to do all that and more, own a property, a nice car, all from their early 20s. Then, when they realise they can't have it all from day one, it's the fault of government, society etc.

Believe it or not, not everything revolves around London ;) Did you see my earlier post where I said 'I'm in Fife'? In my later post did you see where I said 'some, not all'? Wind yir neck in.

House price gravy train may have hit the buffers

Seems to me some (not all) youngsters expect to be able to have it all from day one of being an adult. Life doesn't work that way. Buckle down, save if you can, and go from there. Are there some young folk who'll never be able to buy a property or a decent car? Yes. Just as there's always been.

I'm in Fife. In my locale, there are perfectly nice flats from £100k+, actually £80/90k+ can still bag you something decent enough. Decent enough houses can be had for £160k+. Not in slum areas, obviously not proverbial Beverly Hills either. Nowt wrong with a flat, especially as a starter home.

I would argue folk on average salaries in an average area can do it, it all depends what levers they have at their disposal. e.g. some have moved back to live with parents for x years, paying little or zero rent, thus helping to build the deposit. Little or no socialising, no holidays, no new...

The infamous "FOR"+ manufacturer + part

The quality of fake goods is getting ever better. And yes, for some products (e.g. electrical items) there can be significant risk to the buyer/user if the product is substandard, which they often are. I have a friend of a friend who buys and sells fake football shirts. He doesn't make much...

House price gravy train may have hit the buffers

Todays youth seem to think they're the first generations to face difficult choices and challenges when it comes to money and being able to afford stuff. 'Back in the day' the house:wage ratio may indeed have been less, however that doesn't mean folk didn't struggle in different ways. I...
