    broken screed issue

Thanks. Have just done that. Do I need to keep redoing it or is once enough? Laid it about 1pm.

    broken screed issue

Fair enough. I’ll have to take the ear bashing from the wife. I’ll do the rest of the floor but leave that last corner open so it can dry. I’ve put the screed down now. Hopefully it performs better than the previous bit. Is it likely to dry quicker because of the set screed around it? I’m...

    broken screed issue

Ah ok. Had assumed it going hard and drying were similar. When you say floor screed in bags. Do you mean like https://www.toolstation.com/ultraplan-renovation-screed-3240/p21200 or something else? I’ve used that before and it does seem to dry pretty quickly so I’m wondering if that is better...

    broken screed issue

Thanks Wayners. Yeah definitely digging it out. Keen to get it dry as quickly as possible so I can lay the membrane and laminate over it. If I used an accelerator would that be better than force drying it? For £8.80 a bottle is it worth a...

    broken screed issue

Hey everyone I was looking to do a quick refurbishment of my utility. It’s got vinyl floor which had a rip in it and a noticeable dip. I’ve ripped up the vinyl and seems the problem was a tad bigger than I was expecting. I’ve attached some images. I’m thinking of ripping out the loose parts and...

    Recycling window panes

Yeah. I guess it’s the spacers that make them a problem maybe? Whereas glass bottles can just be melted down easily. Annoying though when you try to do the right thing. Yeah I’m surprised by some of the things that are so difficult to recycle but arguably, shouldn’t be.

    Recycling window panes

I asked where I bought the new panes from but they didn’t want it. The other one near me are quite pricey so assume they’d only do it for a decent payout. Amazing how hard it is seeing how easy it is to recycle them.

    Recycling window panes

Hey everyone I’ve just changed 19 panes of double glazing in my conservatory. I’m really struggling to find a place to take the old planes to recycle. All the local tips just keep saying chuck it in landfill which seems a shame as it’s so easily recycled. I’ve asked local allotments, put it...

    Help identifying conservatory guttering please

Thanks Dale. I’ll give them a go. They’ve been in my basket for ages but I guess I can always send them back if they aren’t right! I’ll feedback if they work!

    Help identifying conservatory guttering please

Thanks Dale. Yeah I’ve had all the guttering off to give it a proper clean so I know which clips you mean. Fortunately they’re all in one piece and it’s just the seals that are the problem. Is there a universal seal you tend to go for? The issue I’m having is there are various different...

Detached garage conversion (can I use stud walls) (Ed.)

No worries. I’ve added some photos if that helps explain what I mean. It’s all the same wall.

Detached garage conversion (can I use stud walls) (Ed.)

I did pretty much one of every type of wall in my integral garage conversion. Key thing is insulation. If its single skin ensure your piers are ok (mine were pulling away from the wall so had to relay them). Make sure you put a breather membrane up first if its single skin brick (I used Tyvek...

    Marshall tufflex gutter seals

Thanks Wayners. That’s the one yeah. But seems to be out of stock everywhere I’ve looked. Or they want £9 to deliver it! I’m wondering if there is another manufacturer that’s making a similar profile. Apparently they are glue in as well. Any idea what glue is suitable?

    Marshall tufflex gutter seals

Hi, I've got some ogee marshall tufflex guttering. Its not made anymore and as such spares want over £10 for just one joint. Its on a conservatory so tying it into the metal guttering that goes round the back (can't remember the term for it) means replacing the whole system is a no go. I'm...

    Help identifying conservatory guttering please

What did you do in the end with this? I've got the same guttering by the looks of it (marshall tufflex) and the same problem. Hoping to just change the rubber seals as the rest of it seems fine.

    Self build extension costs

Nice work! Thanks. I’ve done a fair few bits on my current house so it’s given me some experience. Especially as that’s involved fixing so much poor work done by the previous owner. I’ve reclad the dormer stripping it right back to frame, garage conversion, refit a flat roof, changed all the...

    Self build extension costs

That’s the worry I have. It won’t be to a high standard but I’d probably go the render route so I guess it doesn’t matter too much. I assume most of the assistance tools you get with bricklaying are a bit gimmicky other than the corner levelling things. Are there alternatives to brick and...
