Can you put a smart switch controller in a cavity wall space?

Thanks guys. I think I might well, therefore, have to sink it into the wall as above (and use a blank face plate to indicate that it is there). One other reservation, about otherwise putting it in the cavity, was that the signal would be that much weaker. Good point about the roof - it might...

    Making dumb extractor fans smart

Sorry to reactivate this old thread but it is very similar to something I am looking at. I recently installed a new humidistat extractor and I regret it now - no matter how I set it, it either does not come on or keeps running even when the bathroom is adequately dry. I have a Home Assistant...

Can you put a smart switch controller in a cavity wall space?

Hi there. I currently have a very basic bathroom extractor fan that is controlled with a manual switch - i.e. it was wired in independently of the light switch. Basic as can be - pull the cord and the extractor goes on, pull again and it goes off. The extractor is on the wall of a flat roof...

Advice on setting up humidistat bathroom fan correctly

Bit of an update on this one - I am now coming to conclusion that the extraction rate is not what it should be with my fan. My bathroom has a volume of 8.57m. My extractor fan can eject 97m per hour. At that rate, the it should be whipping out steam really rapidly. However, it doesn't seem...

Advice on setting up humidistat bathroom fan correctly

One other thing I should mention, which might be relevant - my installation was not typical as my electrician had to install the extractor from scratch. My bathroom used to have a wooden slatted thing on the wall (possibly called a louvre but not sure) with an air brick on the other side - it...

Advice on setting up humidistat bathroom fan correctly

Exactly the same, here. We have a big window in our bathroom, so showers in the morning do not require a light on.

Advice on setting up humidistat bathroom fan correctly

Thanks for that - I have since turned the extractor fan back on (with 90% humidity start up) and it has not once turned off. The room is completely dry and I even used a VAC condensation vacuum to make sure. It is really wet, outside, which might be constantly triggering the humidistat. If...

Advice on setting up humidistat bathroom fan correctly

Yep - had a look and there is only a single dial for humidity only (top left of photo). Nothing for adjusting timer, which is odd.

Advice on setting up humidistat bathroom fan correctly

Thanks for that - I shall try turning off the power. Whacking up the humidity to 90%, leaving the power off for 30 minutes or so and see what happens after that. I am pretty sure that it has been wired correctly (used a reputable electrician). One odd thing, I have noticed is that the site...

Advice on setting up humidistat bathroom fan correctly

Thanks guys - annoyingly, the instructions state that you must not adjust the sensor while it is powered on. Really irritating as I could have otherwise bought a humidity sensor off E-bay and tried to match it to that.

Advice on setting up humidistat bathroom fan correctly

Hi there. I had a Silent Tornado ST100HT put in on Friday evening by my electrician: https://www.extractorfanworld.co.uk/st100ht-silent-tornado-hi-power-bathroom-fan-with-humidistat--timer-3437-p.asp I specifically asked that the fan was not connected to my light switch - as such, the...

    New diodes for broken TV

Evening. My kitchen TV (Toshiba 19BV510B) went pop and I saw a small puff of smoke - now the TV will not fire up (no power light). A quick search on the net revealed that it is usually the diodes that go on the particular power board (17IPS16-4) and I found that the two big ones are indeed...

No CPC on one of my lighting circuits - worth amending?

Cheers everyone - really helpful advice. I genuinely find all this really interesting. Can't believe I said that - indeed I have been watching lots of US videos and it seems to have rubbed off a bit. I popped into the loft, to have a nose around, and the cable is (thankfully) not rubber. I...

No CPC on one of my lighting circuits - worth amending?

That is a bit of a worry. I am just about to completely redo my loft - i.e. put down 270mm insulation and interlocking loftboards, so now would seem to be the ideal time to change out any old wiring while I have access to it. I centainly won't go anywhere near my consumer unit. Is it...

No CPC on one of my lighting circuits - worth amending?

Perfect - thanks very much for that. Much appreciated. I had completely forgotten about the switches themselves and, having checked, they are going to be a major pain. Just going to stick with plastic only on the circuit.

No CPC on one of my lighting circuits - worth amending?

Hi there. I had a consumer unit put in and the electrician gave me the concerning news that one of the two lighting circuits had no cpc on it. I have an old bungalow, that was extended at some point, and only the extended lighting system has cpc. Most worrying is that there are a few metal...

Regular boiler switch to combi - initial advice

Really sensible advice - thank you. I am going to do just that and get some advice from estate agents in the area, before doing anything.

Regular boiler switch to combi - initial advice

Really interesting point. I hadn't really thought about improvements increasing sale time, rather than increasing monetary value. So, as a general rule, would you say that it is quite difficult to get a net gain from developing a property - i.e. 4 bedroom houses costs more money than 3 bedroom...

Regular boiler switch to combi - initial advice

To be honest, I am not entirely sure I understand how home improvements and value increases work in general. Just looked at a random website and it suggests that a £20,000.00 loft conversion can add £45,000.00 to the property value. Where has the extra £25,000.00 come from - does this cover...

Regular boiler switch to combi - initial advice

Great - thanks, guys. I perhaps should take these "how to add value to your home" guides with a bit of a pinch of salt. I couldn't work it out, either - assumed that it was something to do with the purchaser not having to deal with the inconvenience of installation. Thanks, also, for the tip...
