Google Nest Mini fault with radio 4 and radio 4 extra repeating sentence?

I have been using the Google Nest Mini's for around four years now, our VHF radio reception is near enough zero, so it is one of two ways I have to listen to radio, the other is to use the TV. The TV still works OK, but as late the Nest Mini has been repeating a sentence or two, with a gap...

Has plug and play solar now been passed, I see adverts?

I note eFIXX has talked about this problem with over voltage and EV chargers cutting out, and using current in the earth wires as part of the detection for loss of PEN. I am not sure about having a relay/cut-out which can disconnect the earth? Same with a diode in the earth wire. To my mind if...

    Hive not very reliable

I had a thermostat, not hive, and the indicator said battery was OK, but it would not switch on, swapped battery, and worked OK again, seems it did not like batteries with a low voltage, even if not showing as discharged.

Has plug and play solar now been passed, I see adverts?

Battery size is hard to work out. 1) Large enough to ensure when something like a washing machine it turned on, the battery covers the troughs. We want to support a 3 kW machine, so we are looking at about 3 kWh to cover the troughs. 2) Cover the time between loss of solar and start of off-peak...

Has plug and play solar now been passed, I see adverts?

That would be a huge change. It seems we have a lottery at the moment. It depends on what meter you have. Some same for import and export, some charge one for export the same as import, some simply don't pay for export, and the smart ones you can have a second MPAN number to be paid for export...

Remove an Old Friedland Doorbell Chime - how to wire?

You have two pairs, one goes to door push, the other from the power supply, how they are connected depends on the using being fitted to replace it, my old hard-wired doorbell had the door push go to selected terminals as it had a different sound for front and back door. And front door you could...

Has plug and play solar now been passed, I see adverts?

Thanks, I had wondered when it would be issued, mind you with a change of government not sure what will happen now. What will Plaid Cymru do? Will there be a reshuffle, will Edward Miliband still be calling the tune?

    Bosch recirculating cooker hood

Yes I remember my parents with an Aga range cooker, louvered windows to get rid of the heat, and also a large kitchen general extractor fan, again to get rid of the heat, and dampers to allow the oven to be heated from different areas, and you had to slide the pans around to select how hot they...

Has plug and play solar now been passed, I see adverts?

This is the problem, if the load drops the voltage, then it will trip out reasonably rapid, but if the generation raises the voltage, they can take it in turns generating, we would hope the frequency would drift, but with half a dozen solar panels on an estate with say 200 homes on the same...

    Bosch recirculating cooker hood

On moving to an induction hob, with features like auto boil then simmer, and can be turned down low enough and the mark/space switch is short enough to allow direct melting of chocolate no need for the bowl in a pan of water, for domestic the cooker hood was not required to remove steam. Control...

Has plug and play solar now been passed, I see adverts?

That was always my worry. The inverters should measure but voltage and frequency and if either goes out of limits auto switch off. But they will auto switch on again as well, so there needs to be a delay between auto off, and restart. With half a dozen solar inverters it is likely they will...

    Bosch recirculating cooker hood

I have a vented hood, not really required with an induction hob, they are required with gas cookers to get rid of combustion products, but all mine is used for is the built-in lights. I know the idea is the carbon filter will remove smells, with non-vented, but in real terms they just...

No one near me wants this job - New ground rod

I would be more worried about the 40 mS trip time. I know my RCDs did trip at less than 40 mS as I did have a tester, but when I found a horizontal wired going around 4 right-angle bends, so not in a permitted zone, with a pair of hacksaw blades that I was using to cut a channel for a water pipe...

Has plug and play solar now been passed, I see adverts?

Yes, I totally agree with you. Plug and play should be just that, no applications or forms to fill in, and no extra bits which need connecting to meter tails, simply just plug in and it works. However, it does seem the German system needs people to apply to use it, since I don't read German not...

Has plug and play solar now been passed, I see adverts?

It seems EcoFlow jumped the gun, and advertised plug and play solar before it has been OK'ed but the UK government, and the advertising complaints people have required them to remove the adverts. I think we all know others have also jumped the gun, and it means no one is sure about what is...

No one near me wants this job - New ground rod

Yes, the idea of a 300 mA RCD before the CU doubling as an isolator does seem to make sense. But where do you stop?

from Gov.UK so with the firm being named in the press release, one can assume if they say it does not need an electrician they know what they are talking about.

    Double switch not turning off

L1 new = Com old. If the L2 and L3 are the wrong way around it does not really matter, but Com must be correct. Only one wire connects to com. And com will be same wire on both switches.

    soldering AAA batteries

I have found the same, maybe a speed control as well, but that is graduated, the switch is normally a gear change. I would assume the two batteries are wired in series to get 40 volts and two 2 Ah will become discharged at about the same time. But using a 2 Ah and 4 Ah in series seems wrong.
