    New toilet cistern

Thanks for all your help. I have bought the Skylo kit, and will keep the original cistern. Having previously fitted one of these, I had issues with leaks, as I trusted the nuts, bolts and donut to do their job! I am thinking of sealing the toilet pan with plumbers mate (red on photo - will be...

    New toilet cistern

Thanks for your reply. I am replacing the whole cistern, or do you recommend anything else? Basically, the flush mechanism isn’t working, hardly any water is flushing so just be a broken mechanism

    New toilet cistern

Hi all I am replacing my current toilet cistern as it’s failing, am I right in saying this is a bottom entry cistern? Are they all universal fit or will I need to measure up first to ensure the cistern fits this toilet? The cistern I am looking at is attached, and current one also pictured...

    Faulty boiler thermostat

Thanks for clarifying. It seems strange as you’d think if it’s set to H the hot water would still continue to flow through. I’m sure there is some science behind it

    Faulty boiler thermostat

Thank you for your advise, we were turning down the TRV valves to reduce the heat in the house. The boiler was definitely turning on so the motorised valve was working. I’ve just reattached the head to the valve, and so far so good, the hot water demand is on, and the radiators aren’t hot My...

    Faulty boiler thermostat

Thanks. Should this valve turn all the way around, as it only seems to move a slight turn in both directions? Thanks

    Faulty boiler thermostat

Sorry, do you mean one of the blue or red circled below? If this is the case, I haven’t tried that. Many thanks

    Faulty boiler thermostat

thanks for your response. Looking at the flats on the actuator and the spindle, they don’t seem to match up. Am I doing something stupid (most probably ) Are you advising to manually pull the spring whilst on the valve to match up the flats with the spindle? Thanks

    Faulty boiler thermostat

Fab thanks. Have just tried connecting it and it seems the head won’t fit on to the connection points. Can anyone recommend a head that will fit the valve please?

    Faulty boiler thermostat

I’ve just realised, the whole motorised unit wasn’t even connected to the valve on the pipe, it was just on the floor where you see in the picture - only recently bought this house! Should this be connected to a valve anywhere on here? Thanks

    Faulty boiler thermostat

Thanks. Can this be done manually, or watched when turning the boiler on to see if there is movement?

    Faulty boiler thermostat

Thank you for clarifying, appreciated I’ve just carried out a test on the thermostat and valve. I turned the boiler on with the thermostat operating at 10 degrees. Turned it up to 30 degrees as a test and I heard the click on the thermostat so I’m fairly confident that’s working. I recorded...

    Faulty boiler thermostat

Would this be the case even though heat is being pumped out of the radiators? My limited understanding of the motorised valve so far is that if it’s faulty, no hot water will pass through?

    Faulty boiler thermostat

Hi all Please could anyone offer me advice regarding a faulty thermostat for the boiler? I have a BAXI 400 gravity fed boiler, and I have set the heating to come on via a timer. As the house is hot as it is, I’ve set the thermostat to 10 degrees so it shouldn’t be triggered (even though it’s...

    Push fit isolation

Thanks for all your help guys, I removed the solder and manage to connect a push fit straight connector, I didn’t need the iso valve as the stop taps a few metres away

Thanks, will sandpaper remove the solder with a rub?

    Push fit isolation

Thanks for your advice all. The leak is coming from the red line on the picture. I am struggling to expose the olive as there is hardened solder that stops the nut going up the pipe work. Tried the compound but struggling to get it on the pipe so PTFE will be the way. I’ll try this Many...

    Push fit isolation

Hi all I have a really annoying isolation valve I can’t seem to stop leaking after changing pipework, whether this is due to a knackered olive or myself doing something wrong. I used the old valve to save cutting the pipe as it’s close to an elbow joint, however I’ve got to the point where I...
