Plaster falling off - damp or badly applied?

I can't see any sign of paint so I would say it wasn't painted before being papered. My house has some plastered walls (this is my mother's). Stripping paper off those has never pulled off all the top plaster back to undercoat plaster. I don't think the walls are damp. Bit of sign of...

Plaster falling off - damp or badly applied?

Hi, I've just started stripped out a house to redecorate. Walls are papered which has later been paint. The top, finish coat of the plaster is coming off. So far on the 2 half walls that have been stripped, about 90% has come off. Pull the paper seems to pull the plaster off most times...

    Landlord gas certificate or not?

I've found a leaflet on here, a guide to landlord duties. That says "any appliances and flues serving ‘relevant premises’ (such as central heating boilers not installed in tenants’ accommodation, but used to heat them) are covered." which seems a bit daft to me but it is pretty clear cut.

Advice on new gas installation and CH

I run our local oil club so I know oil costs, last buy (13/1/15) cost was 34p. On my boiler (not condensing, so could take off 10% say), this is 3.91 p/kWh (plus VAT) so 4.1 p/kWh. However, I bought oil in the summer at 49p so what I'm currently burning cost me 5.64 + Vat, 5.92 p/kWh. Gas...

Advice on new gas installation and CH

That is one school of thought. Not keen on warm air, had that 30 yr ago and it blew dust everywhere, SWMBO would stand for that. Oil is about the same now but that could be temporary and cost of tank install is similar to gas. Easier to shop around on gas (I'm currently on oil). E7 more...

    Landlord gas certificate or not?

I was just wondering if you need a landlord's gas safety certificate if there are no gas appliances in the rented accommodation. Say you rent a room in you house but the gas boiler is in the kitchen? Or say the house has a granny annexe that you rent out? A self contained one with or without...

Advice on new gas installation and CH

I've inherited a house and I looking at options. It has E7 heating as when it was built there was no gas. There is gas and I've been playing with the online quote here. This comes up some rather strange figures. If I position the meter near the electric the cost is over £2k. If I put it as...

    HRM Wallstar air problem

Update: I think I may have fixed it. It's hard to tell as it can go days without failing. The NRV at the tank didn't work and didn't seem to stop the air leak so it wasn't the oil falling back overnight that was the issue. I've changed the oil seals in the boiler fire/nrv valve and...

    HRM Wallstar air problem

M.I. = Manufacturer's instructions? I checked with HRM before fitting the nv at the tank and they didn't see a problem. I would agree it does give some extra load to the oil pump but shouldn't be a lot compared with the force needed to push the oil through the nozzle.

    HRM Wallstar air problem

Update for those following this thread. I replaced the NV valve. Still getting slow air leakage. I have some heldite on order and will try that as I'm not convinces the white stuff is working. What I have tried is ignoring the air bubble. It grows until it reaches a maximum size it...

    HRM Wallstar air problem

Not sure I follow. The boiler is on a 15min cycle with a min run time of 4min (CM67 thermostat). The running sound is nice and steady. When I had a solenoid coil go intermittent you could hear the boiler burn sound vary. I don't hear that now. I haven't got a pressure gauge but the oil...

    HRM Wallstar air problem

Solenoid valve stem hasn't been replaced. I did wonder about air getting back in from the pump is the pump solenoid valve was leaky. I looked at undoing the valve steam but it did want to move and didn't want to use too much force and break the pump (especially over xmas!). Is the valve...

    HRM Wallstar air problem

Fittings are compression but system has been running fine for years. I've use a liquid ptfe (rated for oil) on the olives. It's a non set so perhaps I should get heldtight(?) or something instead? I've replaced the o rings in the old valve so when it stops raining I'll give that a try. I...

    HRM Wallstar air problem

No, between swindon and bristol. But, the problem is the fact the fault is so intermittent. If an engineer comes out, HRM or not, the boiler is work fine. I've talked to HRM technical, they think the air bubble growing is suspicious as they say it should not do that.

    HRM Wallstar air problem

Thanks for the suggestions. The fault is very intermittent. It can go days. So running with a small bottle of oil would show anything. I'd have to run for a couple of weeks like that. Solenoid coil has been changed. The air bubble isn't static but grows over days of running. The...

    HRM Wallstar air problem

Control box is DKO 970 mod 21 and transformer is Bentone Danfoss Type EBI 052F0037 (as written on them) It's had a new nozzle. Front of nozzle is now black but I assume that is normal or maybe due to the air (or me getting rid of the air) causing burps? I assume combustion is ok. No sign...

    HRM Wallstar air problem

Hi, I have a HRM wallstar 12/15 : 11 (Date 07/04 I reckon, installed late 2004). It has an intermittent fault where it sometimes fails to run requiring someone to go outside and push the red button (usually when it is raining!). There is a lot of air in the plastic pipe. I get rid of the...

Flow rate for a good shower.

Bit late but anyway. Just measured an aqualisa colt. Flow rate was 4.0l/min. I find this gives me an acceptable shower. I don't feel short of water. I dunno if this is because the head gives a wide coverage. Pipe run to the shower is 8m all in 22mm (2.4m to floor, 4.5m under floor, 1.1m...

Advice on central heating/boiler heat exchange

If you want to be sure work out how much water you have in your system. Radiator maker's spec sheets will tell you how water they hold. You probably won't find old radiators so you'll have to make a guess, say 25% more water?? Same for pipes, guess water you have and work out. For my 5 bed...

    water hammer - flexible pipe?

It looks similar to a fluidmaster but it's not exactly the same as any of pictures on screwfix so it looks like a copy. I tried a flexible hose and that didn't help, or at least not by that much. I tried slowing down the fill by closing the service valve partly. Results were 50s fill...
