    Hardwood sleeper treatment

Dang, I thought hardwood would outlast regardless. Seems like I’ve misjudged some things here..

    Hardwood sleeper treatment

Hello yet again. Almost at the point of putting in hardwood sleepers to serve as a ‘retaining wall’ against dirt. More cost effective and easier than masonary. I’d like to treat them still with something to prolong life, especially where they are in ground contact. However I’d like to be...

Concrete fence post - quality and hanging gates

Oh wow, had not considered that. That’s going the extra mile. I’m not at the coast and it’s all relatively sheltered so hopefully wouldn’t need that, but I like the idea for the gate fixings at least. Any risk of them rusting and compromising the concrete?

Concrete fence post - quality and hanging gates

Thanks. Is it a 9ft post overall? What do you mean by extra concrete and stay bars? The posts have an additional bar diagonally supporting them from the ground? It’s probably one of those things that’s fine in most instance and then a pain in another..! More risk.

Concrete fence post - quality and hanging gates

I’m hoping to avoid the rebar. Some have holes in the middle already so either I can use those, or the holes hopefully suggest that there is no rebar running at that point in the post..

Concrete fence post - quality and hanging gates

Hi all. Hopefully my last questions for a while. -concrete fence posts. They’re expensive, but I’m seeing cheap ones on Facebook but some look rough. I assume there is differences in quality and longevity. What are the signs of good posts? Lock timber yard sells ‘dry cast’. Is dry cast...

Subfloor - Thermoplastic tiles, bitumen adhesive - how to level

That’s makes perfect sense.. areas of my floor have no tiles or bitumen and I never see any evidence of damp in those areas at all so I’m sceptical that I need DPM layer but I’d rather have it and not need it than have the reverse issue..

    Patio Drainage

No worries, thanks. This correlates with my instinct on the matter.. it’s not really enough to cause concern.

    Patio Drainage

The current pavers are barely attached and not sealed. Thinking once done properly, and sealed, it might change how much water drains and is absorbed. To phrase another way then - unsealed vs sealed sandstone pavers, would there be much difference in water absorption and runoff?

    Adding hopper drain to garden

Pour away waste water. Buckets from mopping floor, bowls of water from cleaning.. just general water. sounds like it’s more hassle than it is worth though!

Subfloor - Thermoplastic tiles, bitumen adhesive - how to level

Had them tested and they came back negative, thanks for flagging this

Subfloor - Thermoplastic tiles, bitumen adhesive - how to level

Hi It would have covering installed over it. Ideally real wood floor, if not a laminate flooring, final option would be carpet and underlay.

    Patio Drainage

Hello yet again. sorry to post so much, I’m WFH full time due to illness and I keep spying more jobs and thinking of more questions. I intend to lay two 3x3 approx patios either side of an extension. this extension’s footings are very shallow - presumably raft foundation. Ahead of the patio is...

Subfloor - Thermoplastic tiles, bitumen adhesive - how to level

Don’t you love houses. Thanks for the advice. Probably best to ‘play it safe’, my only worry is it might bring the level up above a door threshold but I’ll see what I can work out.

Subfloor - Thermoplastic tiles, bitumen adhesive - how to level

Hi all. Tale as old as time. 1967 house, concrete floor downstairs has horrible thermoplastic tiles secured with bitumen adhesive or similar. Kitchen has already had these all lifted and covered with limo. Hallways had them removed and it has been tiled which is holding up fine. Living room...

Concrete corner fence post and angled fence

Thanks. This will be a corner post receiving another panel with no angle so not sure I can give it much twist/a twist in the angle might look a sod. But here’s hoping I can simply get away with it..!

Concrete corner fence post and angled fence

It’s actually about 30cm so my estimate wasn’t wildly off..! So you think the angle that gives me is very very shallow.. so I might get away with this with the panel in the slot as normal. Gravel board to contend with too..

Concrete corner fence post and angled fence

I can confirm exact measurements tomorrow.. do we think this angle is so small as to not really pose any issue?

Concrete corner fence post and angled fence

Thanks. I could go this route. I still thinking I’m describing myself poorly. Let’s say first post is against the house. The end post and the final part of the fence run is 5m away but it is 20cm right of the house. That’s dictating the angle i need the fence to run at!

Concrete corner fence post and angled fence

sorry I was unclear there. The fence run is about 5m and one end is 20cm offset from the other. So over the course of 5m it moves 20cm diagonally from the first post
