Rotating chrome pipework: would it leak?

That obviously never occurred to the chap who fitted this one, then added a tiled floor over the top of it. I’ll make sure that the new floor allows better access.

Rotating chrome pipework: would it leak?

Admittedly I’m no plumber, but I haven’t seen one of those for a while. All my recent encounters with compression fittings have been of the “flat faced” variety.

Rotating chrome pipework: would it leak?

Well, I drilled a hole in the floor ( we're replacing it later this year) and got my endoscope down there. The good news is that there's no plastic--its one of those old fashioned knurled connectors in brass, with 10mm copper into one end and 15mm chrome tails out of the other. No sign of any...

Rotating chrome pipework: would it leak?

We bought this bungalow in May 2022. Since then I've painstakingly worked my way through it, correcting the bodges of the previous owner where possible within the limitations of my DIY ability and where those abilities fell short, employing tradesmen. It was a rental property before we bought...

Rotating chrome pipework: would it leak?

If it is “chrome into pushfit”, I’ll change the fitting for metal compression. I’ve got one of those endoscope thingies, so I’ll enlarge the pipe hole in the floor, poke the endo down there and see what turns up.

Rotating chrome pipework: would it leak?

Thanks for that. No idea what fittings have been used under the bathroom floor, but I’ll monitor for pressure drop and if needs be, I’ll expose the pipes.

Rotating chrome pipework: would it leak?

Afternoon all I had occasion to swap a heated towel rail in our bathroom today. Straight replacement of an old version, using the same pipework. Had great difficulty releasing the compression nut underneath one of the chrome valves and whilst doing so, the vertical chrome pipe turned about 90...

    Fitting soffit vents.

In both the instances where I’ve drilled UPVC soffits, the plastic has been fitted snugly against the original wooden section, so I don’t think you’ll need any kind of extension. From memory the plastic vents fit snugly into a 70mm hole.

    Fitting soffit vents.

In both the situations where I fitted soffit vents, the UPVC soffits were fitted directly over the old wooden ones. So there was a good solid surface for me to drill into. I’d imagine that if it was UPVC soffits only there might be some vibration, but drilled with care, no problem.

    Loft ventilation question

I've answered your post on the " fitting soffit vents" thread, but regarding removing existing condensation, if the loft is completely sealed you could use a dehumidifier up there if you have one. If you don't have a dehumidifier then you'd have to pay upwards of £150 to buy one big enough to...

    Fitting soffit vents.

Hi Chatlow yes, the soffit and felt vents did get rid of the vast majority of the condensation. In fact, its worked for us twice, because we moved to another bungalow in 2022 and had exactly the same problem during a spell of cold weather at the end of 2023. The roof in this bungalow was...

Can you work on valve-to-rad connections without draining?

Thanks for that. I might even put them on my early Christmas list!

Can you work on valve-to-rad connections without draining?

Well, as is no doubt obvious from my enquiries I’m a DIYer and not a professional, but they certainly strike me as something I ought to keep in my toolbox.

Can you work on valve-to-rad connections without draining?

Blimey, never seen those before. Some sort of temporary stopper?

Can you work on valve-to-rad connections without draining?

It’s compression, and the joint is actually dry at the moment after weeping slightly for a day or two following a rad swap. So I’ll just monitor for now, but definitely put your advice to good use if it leaks again.

Can you work on valve-to-rad connections without draining?

Much obliged for that info, thanks. I have a weeping rad-nut-to-valve connection that I need to tackle.

Can you work on valve-to-rad connections without draining?

I've seen videos on YouTube in which its claimed that if you turn off both radiator valves then open the bleed screw ( and close it again) you can create a vacuum in the rad that enables you to work on valve-to-rad connections without draining, or losing much water. Does that actually work in...

    BBC news Black out

Let me be clear about what I’m saying: that there is more balance in GBN than others have suggested, yes, though the extent of that balance and its influence on their output has to be seen in the light of an anti-immigration, pro Daily-Telegraph-reader agenda. I’d be the first to acknowledge the...

    BBC news Black out

Bit of free advice for you, old lad. You clearly don't understand how to conduct a rational discussion about politics, but don't despair: there's a way forward. Join a couple of political forums elsewhere, and observe how others do it. See how they make an argument, and how others counter that...
